I hope this answers your questions. I was taking xanax at night 0.25 1/2 tablet. Xanax proved to be a miracle drug for me. While taking it it was rare that I needed to take pain meds during the day...then excedrin or tylenol. I don't know why it had such a profound effect on me.
I've had Fibro since about 1994 and tried muscle relaxers, darvocet, hydrocodone and finally Neurontin. Neurontin worked great for about three days and then nothing.
I found out about xanax when my husband was in the hospital and I borrowed one of his pills. Who knew? It doesn't calm me down much but I can sleep and pain is manageable.
As some of you know I am looking for work and decided it wouldn't look good on the drug test to have xanax show up. Around here it has quite a name as a street drug. Anyway...I stopped the xanax on 8/12 and took one of the Neurontin I had left instead. It made me high as a kite for three days....then lost effect. But by that time I had increased the malic acid and magnesium suppliment to three a day.
I find I can sleep most nights...I take a calcium suppliment just before bedtime. If I need help then I pop an antihistamine. Most nights I don't need to.
I started out with just one malic acid, the next day I took two... one in the morning and one in the evening. I couldn't tell any difference and there was no diarrhea so the next day I took three. I noticed on the malic acid thread that Sherrine took two in the morning and two in the evening so I tried four. I did find that taking them two at a time upset my stomach and as some have reported gave me the "toots" I am now taking three a day with food and no adverse effects. Maybe I stepped the dosage up too fast....I'll try again after a while to increase to four again. However, I don't think I'll take them two at a time again!
I feel better....my life is not any less stressful...so it must be the malic acid since that is all I'm taking. I'm not normal, whatever that is, but the pain is at the same level it was with the xanax.
Hey....it doesn't cost much. It's worth a try. I know we are all different and have different medical problems to contend with. All I can say is that it is working for me and I intend to continue to take it as long as it works.
I hope this answers your questions.... A very grateful Chuzzle
