Has anyone taken this for nerve pain and if so how did it work?

Personally it didn't prove to be useful for me at all. I was at 300mg 3X per day. The first few days it made me nauseous and spacey. After that passed then there seemed to be no changes at all.

But please don't let me or my experience with it discourage you. I know that there are others here who have had great success and swear by it. Just remember that everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another. But at least I can say that I have not heard any bad stories with it.

mmllr,

I take Neurontin 300mgs, twice a day.  I've been taking this dosage for about 2 months.  Apparently, when you start this med, your doc should start you on a lower dose and then slowly increase it. Originally, I started on 100mgs once a day, then 300mgs once a day and now I'm on the 300mgs twice a day.

Personally, I don't think it has done anything to help with my pain. eyes   But, like Piercings said, don't let this discourage you.  Everyone's pain is different and what works for one person may not work for another.  Also, I don't know how long you have taken it, or if you've had any side effects from it.  My mom had to take it a few years ago for shingles, and she said it made her feel crazy.  Of course, this is the woman who can get high off a Tylenol. rolleyes   But, that's a whole 'nother story. wink

Anyway, there are a lot of us who do take Neurontin, and again, like Piercings said, some swear that it works wonders.  Hopefully, some of those people will post and you can get a full spectrum of opinions.  Good Luck! :-)
FINALLY dxd on 06/13/08
Vicodin, Neurontin, Ibuprofen for pain-which doesn't help, BTW
Zoloft & methadone (NOT for pain) for sanity-which doesn't help, BTW
Klonopin for anxiety (Guess what?  Doesn't help!)
Chantix to try to quit smoking (started 08/20/08)

I am on it and it works so so, but like Peircings said its different in every person my freind is doing fine on it, i did better on topamax, but until it becomes generic, i cant take it.
I am thinking about discontinuing the nuerontin.  Mainly cuz I ran out and dont see the PM doc til next month and It really doesnt do that much except maybe contribute to my weight gain, or at least it not helping it any, I am sure its not he cause, but so many meds can casue a slow metbolism, i am thinking about joing magnesium and malic acid too.
Try to go more herbal with my meds, cuz im not getting anywhere with the ones i have except maybe my anti depressants are helping and my stomach meds i have to be on. But the pain meds and the nuerontin are muscle relaxant are weighing down litterally, and the drs appts and copays are gettin so high husb is resntful of me, these are real strained right now.
Sorry i am babbling Just a bad day MIL is in hospital and we dont know if she is gonna be ok. Thank you for listening.
Thats my expereince wih neurontin, others may be different.

I take 800  mg.. 3 time a day with malic acid and magnisium suppliments, works wonders for me. It only worked so so till I added the suppliments. I don't have too much break through pain until I over do myself So with this dd every thing is paced anyways. Ask any questions you need to I'd love to help.

I started Neurontin at 300mg 3X /day. After only 2 days, I was totally looped. I felt as if *I* was outside my body witnessing what was going on. Of course, my doc was on a 2 week holiday so after consulting with another doctor went back to taking one 300mg pill at night without problems. When the doc returned, he recommended re-starting the 3x 300mg for a month. I had a slight easing of the fibro pain with that; the next step was 400mg 3X /day with more relief, but not enough.

Tonight I've just taken the first dose of 600mg, and am hoping that my body won't react badly to another dose at bedtime. If there is a noticeable improvement without crazy side effects in taking 3 doses of 600mg., I'll report back.

I used to take neurontin for nerve pain. Now I take Lyrica and can say that it has been way more effective for me than neurontin.
bulging discs in neck & thoracic region, low back pain, arthritis in lumbar region, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety,
meds: enjuvia, pristiq, actos, amaryl, lyrica, hyzaar, elavil

Thanks for posting that, Waterbaby. Originally, before taking anything stronger than Extra Strength Advil with Percocet only for the flareups, I had requested Lyrica. When I mentioned that to my doctor, he said he'd prescribe Neurontin as it was basically the same thing, and that was the end of the discussion. cry
