Ppl in my family always say I am an accident waiting to happen and I proved them right...again.  Last year right about this time I took a fall off a ladder and dislocated my shoulder.  I have had a few spills since then, including when I fell off the curb in the snow and ripped my hip joint last winter.  Well, today my dumb arse does it again only this time a lil different.  Jay and I had just come home and I went back out on the front porch which is heavily decorated and bent down on my haunches(sp?) to plug in the halloween lights.

I go to stand back up and all the sudden I am cartwheeling my arms as I fall backward stumbling as I go and falling over the large pumpkin and ended up crashing into the corner of my front porch.  The back of my head hit hard and then I rammed my right shoulder(of course its the stroke side and the side I dislocated last year) and also hit my low back and twisted my right hip again.  I have a nice lovely bruise along my whole right shoulder blade and partly across my shoulder and a lump on my head and my hip hurts like hell.  All day and night long Jay kept asking me if I felt sleepy from the head getting smacked lol I kept telling him no but he could stop asking ugh!!

It seems I am constantly tripping or stumbling over something and I was telling Kelly71 about dropping my cigarettes when I am tired, like alot!! same for cups and other things but mostly with my right hand and thats on the side I had the stroke damage.  I have forever had some sort of injury or another most of my life......ya some when I was too tipsy but that was a long time ago lol and I dont even drink anymore.  Today its like when I stood up all but the heels of my feet were there and I just started falling.  I didnt know what would have been worse, I tried not to go down the stairs and instead hit super hard where my railing comes together.  Maybe a few stairs and the soft grass would have been better lol.  Well I think I will be ok for trick or treating with the grandkids tomorrow night but I know come morning things are gonna hurt a whole lot more owieeeeeee,

So do any of you have issues with balance and tripping or falling?  it seems since the fibro hit hard that these things have increased for me or am I the only clutze on this forum lol.

Take care and have a trip and fall free day <eg> lol

Yup, I have these issues. It's one of the reasons that when I am outside, I use a wheel chair. My children do not even trust me on my feet at home.

I am so sorry that you ended up with your bottom above your head, AGAIN, today. Really, are you going for the face planting record here? Were you trying to get it on with the big pumpkin?

I hope you heal soon. I gather tomorrow and the day after will be the tough times. I hope you have pain meds around.

Take care sweetie.

Karen, I will get a little lightheadedness occasionally.  I haven't fallen from those instances but I'm really careful.  I have osteoporosis and do not want to break any bones so I'm a little more cautious when moving around.

It sounds like a very painful fall.  I hope you will feel better in a hurry!

Karen, like I said in the past, do we have to wrap you in padding with duct tape all over your body to protect you!!???

That would be a good one for trick or treating tonight with the grandkids. You can go all padded up with your duct tape and when someone asks you what your costume is, you can say "an accident waiting to happen" tongue tongue tongue

All kidding aside, how are you this morning? How is your head?

QTK! shocked

I thought I was the klutz of the family, but you win this one!  I am constantly tripping or stumbling over something (or sometimes nothing).  I lose my balance a lot-sometimes I just start to tip over for no reason.  I thought it might be because I'm so top heavy, LOL smilewinkgrin    But, it's not like I'm dizzy or anything.  I'm having horrible fibro fog (is it worse because it's cold?).  I call it CRS-you know, Can't Remember....Stuff (not quite the word I use, but I thought I'd play it 'G' for now).

Anyway, I hope you feel better.  If the pain gets too bad, please go to the ER.  Of course, then you'll have to go through defending your illnesses and convince them you're not drug seeking.  Oh, you can always try some Tylenol. smilewinkgrin

Seriously, feel better and let Jay take care of you! yeah

FINALLY dxd on 06/13/08
Vicodin, Neurontin, Ibuprofen for pain-which doesn't help, BTW
Zoloft & methadone (NOT for pain) for sanity-which doesn't help, BTW
Klonopin for anxiety (Guess what?  Doesn't help!)
Chantix to try to quit smoking (started 08/20/08)

Karen, GamJill has a great idea for tonight. Why don't we have any balance??? My DH about tripped over the Krissy the other night but he was able to regain his balance and I sat here watching him thinking, how did he do that. I use to be able to do it but not anymore, when I start to fall there is no catching myself.

I hope you mend soon from the latest caper.

When we were getting my mother's house ready to sell I hadn't been dxd yet. I was on a little two foot ladder painting one morning and stepped down and lost my balance, with a pan of paint in my hand, I fell back and hit the wall with my head and back and paint flew everywhere. I called my oldest sister to come over cause I had hit my head pretty hard and she helped me clean up the paint mess but of course I was 30 miles from home and didn't have any clean clothes to put on. Thank goodness I had my carpet cleaner there to get the paint out of the carpet.

I tripped over the sweeper cord and went head first into a drawer on a chest in our bedroom and have a dent in my head from it. I went and had x-rays.

One of my concerns in getting Krissy was her being under foot and tripping and hurting her or myself and it has almost happened a couple of times cause she likes to chase your feet.

Get better
luv and hugs
Marlee

Correct that behavior in Krissy, Marlee.  All I did, when Sabra was a puppy, was to wash out an empty soda can, put a couple of pennies in it, and tape the opening.  All I did was say, "No" and shake the can and Sabra stopped in her tracks.  They do not like the sound!  Now, all I have to do is say that I'm going to get the can and Sabra stops that behavior!  These dogs are like having 2 year olds around.  Try that and see if it helps.

Your not the only clutz,I have been this way since I was a child, but fortunately i have never broken anything except my big right toe, and a couple of times at that.  I will have to admit you do probably take the cake in this fibro family though blush . I do agree with kelly that if your pain worsens to please go to er. I dont think they will think you are drug seeking especially if you show them your bruises and told them what happened, they may laugh smhair   but they would probably take care of you, maybe run some exrays to make sure your didnt break anything or re tear your hip ouch!! skull .I pray that you feel better quickly smurf .....

Ohhhhhhhhhh my aching everything!! lol yep it was very hard getting out of bed this morning and the bruises are showing thier true colors for sure.  My head feels better but my neck hurts.  It's mostly my shoulder that is wrecked so I might pull out my handy dandy sling today. Marlee I have had more then one painting mishap.  Most of you know all the dreaded details of falling off the ladder last fall and dislocating my shoulder but a few years ago my brother hired me to re-do his bathroom.  It was pretty good sized and I only had one days notice to get it done, including mudding over old wallpaper and sanding then painting.

I was doing pretty good other then being exhausted then I got to the toilet area and and right in front of that was a vanity and sink.  Well, I had set the full paint can up on the vanity counter and was trying to get the ladder adjusted and it wouldnt open all the way in that tight space so I couldnt lock the legs on it.  I had just climbed almost to the top when the ladder legs buckled and I went head first into the paint can.  Luckily I had the lid on but omg it gave me this huge dent on my forehead and cut it at the same time.  I was seriously seeing stars so my brother comes in and I'm crying and mopping up blood and all he says is "your going to be able to finish this bathroom aren't you?"  I wanted to kill him and I should have just left but he had some inspection the next day and felt guilty so I got busy.  A little while later I was out on his front porch and my mom had come home, she lived with him and she was shocked by what happened and the looks of my head and boy she tore into my brother about what a louse he was.  I did get the bathroom finished at 11 pm that night and as I was leaving my brother goes"your going to do the weather stripping aren't you,you said you would"  I was so mad and I couldnt believe that no matter what a bum he was that he had no sympathy but guess what? ya I did the weather stripping lol

At least this time Jay actually came outside and helped me when I fell.  The last time I fell outside was walking across the parking lot after taking garbage to the dumpster and I tripped over a railroad tie that lined the yard from the parking lot.  I actually did a summersault and hurt my ankle that and couldnt get up.  It was just turning to night and the grass was dewy and wet and I was worried a slug would get me lol so I managed to get one of my tennis shoes off and threw it at the porch so that hit the edge of the step with not much sound.  Then I got the other one off and hit the front door dead center with a thud and still Jay never came out.  Mind you he was sitting right next to the front door on the loveseat playing video games.  I finally managed to get up and gimp into the house and I was hysterical with him.  He got up to "help"me and I started punching him in the chest and yelling that I could of died out there and he woudnt have noticed lol ya a bit dramatic but I was pisseddddddddd.  He said that he thought I had gone to the nieghbors to visit and thats why when I was gone so long he wasnt worried and when he heard the thus on the door he thought I had come back and was messing with my plants sighhhhhhhhhh.

So ya anyway I do fall alot.  Always been a clutze and it's way worse now that my balance is so off.  Part of that is left over stuff from my stroke last year and part I know is fibro related.  I thank you guys so much for your support and the stories so I dont feel like I am alone and there are "others" lol.  Not going to go all out like I had planned for tonight though.  I was supposed to have full theatrical makeup on with my hair all crazy for trick or treating with the kids but I cant even lift my right arm and the thought of even attempting a shower today sounds like too much so I will just have to go as a scubby gramma and hope the kids arent too disapointed as they look forward to seeing me all decked out each year.  Oh well it will be hard enough walking around for hours.  Hope everyone has a safe and happy halloween!!!

Very soft hug's,
Karen

I am new here, but have a suggestion. Is there a way your insurance or social services can come out and do a home safety assessment? They would be able to fix you up with whatever aids would help you move around your home with some degree of safety. It must worry you and your family greatly to have you falling all the time.

I have balance issues and vertigo. I sometimes am walking and all of a sudden find myself head first into a wall.

With the strokes, has anyone checked you for seizures? They would need to do an EEG, but I know in many people the EEGs do not pick up seizure disorders. My dau has absence epilepsy and she falls a LOT. She is far from a klutz, but when she is having a seizure no one knows until she falls or just "isn't there" in her mind. Her mind just "blanks out" as she puts it. It is a problem when she is walking, b/c then her legs don't move or support her weight. Hard to watch as her mom.

I just htought those might help. I hope I was not intrusive.
