Hi: I occasionally get dizzy spells which are short, but quite strong. I've had MRIs, etc. so I know all is well with my brain. (except fibro fog! LOL!)  The spells occur even if I've not taken any meds all day. (The stiffness has been better lately, thankfully!) I have a hard time standing in line for example, at a fast food place waiting to be served. I usually feel better holding onto a table, leaning against the wall or my husband, etc. Poor balance, I guess. What would cause sudden strong dizzy spells if my health (outside the FM) is otherwise OK?  I'm afraid one of these days I'll fall over.  I do have a history of infrequent spells (every few years or so) where the whole room goes spinning around. (Vertigo?) But these current spells are short-lived, but very strong. Common with FM?  Thanks and God bless for any help!

When did you last have a blood test, Luvzminis?

I get that too, sometimes! I don't know what causes it -- my doctor wonders if it's my low blood pressure. Seems to come in spells. I do try to increase my intake of water, in case it's due to dehydration, but other than that, I don't have a clue!

I have a problem with dizzy spells too. Normally it happens if I'm out at a store or something and I'm on my feet for awhile. Though sometimes it happens when driving which can be a real problem but it usually doesn't happen too often. This happens rarely, but there can be times I feel dizzy when all I'm doing is working on the computer.

I think it's all just a part of fibro, I had a ton of blood work done and they couldn't find anything that would account for the dizziness.

Thanks all!

I had quite a  lot of blood work done in early August, although this (dizziness) has happened since then. I   guess I'll just see how things go.  Drinking water is a good suggestion, also.  I seem to require a lot, and start in the morning with a glass or 2 of water, then move onto green tea with mint.

I used to have very low blood pressure, but actually it was a tad bit high when I went for my physical in August. I maybe should have it tested again.

I've been reading a very current book about Fibromyalgia, and it does mention that our Autonomic Nervous Systems are out of wack. The symptoms are rapid resting heart rates (normal is 60. Mine runs about 80 beats per minute), dizziness and fainting.  From what I'm reading, dizziness is a very common symptom of fibro.

Thanks for sharing that ginny. I was wondering why my pulse was so high even when feeling relaxed.

You're welcome Kythe. Another possible reason for the dizziness and a fast resting pulse is our anxiety.  I have that too :(

I have dizzy spells too but I have always chalked them up to either orthostatic hypotension - my blood pressure plummets when I stand up - or the cysts in my brain or low blood sugar from forgetting to eat (I swear I'm not anorexic, I just don't get hungry!). My neurologist told me to eat more salt to raise my blood pressure, and it has helped with the orthostatic, but I still get them sometimes randomly. I wonder if they're just the FM? Hm.

I think I should stop getting diagnostics done in February...

I heard it is a part of fibro too. Hmmm, now where did I read that? I think it was on our wonderful informative forum. I nearly fell down today walking out of Target! Whoa. Meclizine helps sometimes. It is a sort of motion sickness med (sort of). And it does not make you sleepy.

This could be from fibro or low blood pressure will do this too.  I, too, have the rapid heart beat.  80 beats a minute is normal for me.

I also get dizzy spells, I actually passed out about a year ago.Hit the floor like a ton of bricks. Was fine 5 minutes later. I notice them more if I have not been drinking my water and not eating the right way. I always drink at least 5 glasses of water a day and probally 10 glasses of other stuff. My goal is a minimum of 120 oz a day. I have chronic kidney stones. And must drink.

Luvs-

Pre-fibro, every few years like you, I get an intense "room spinning" dizzy spell. One time, I was driving and had to pull over for about 5-10 minutes till it eased up. Knock on wood I have not had one in awhile.

I do have low blood pressure like some of the others and a resting heart rate of 80 also. Thanks "ginny" that was interesting to hear about fibro.

It could also be an inner ear disorder.  I have one, and I often have vertigo and/or feel off balance.
