Hi everyone
I was recently diagnosed with costochondritis but i am not sure if the diagnosis was right.
Firstly the rib area is tender to touch but only sometimes and not it'snot that painful.
Also its been 2 weeks shouldn't it have gone by now if it was costo?
Also is it possible for the pain to radiate to my back directly behind?
Also can the pain be like a burning sensation at times?
The pain does get worse with upper body movements especially when i bend over.
Please give me your opinion!
Thanks

Sounds like costo to me. . . And I know it hurts so bad :( I hope you get to feeling better. . . Alternating hot and cold packs seem to help me ( I'm cheap so that means my microwaved bean bag, and my cold water bottle :) I try not to take too many anti-inflammatories, because they tear up my stomach, but they do work for a time. I wish you the best of luck, nice to meet you SB, and some mods and others will be on here with better info here in awhile :)
Much Love, Hugs, Peace & Comfort :)

Hi, sb, and welcome to the fibromyalgia forum!  I does sound like costo to me.  I do have costochondritis and my doctor has me taking ibuprofen for it.  I do always take it with food to protect my stomach.  Ask your doctor if it's alright to try that.

Costo can clear up quickly or it can hang around for awhile.  Mine comes and goes and I never know when I will have a problem with it.

People with fibro also have shoulder and neck pain.  You might want to check out the Fibro 101 thread.  There are links to good info about fibro, including a list of symptoms.  You can see if this might be a possiblity as to why your back hurts with upper body movement.  It could also be the costo but, since I have both, I'm not sure what is causing what!  Let us know what you find out!

Hi!

Thank you sherrine and Sam! I have just been so anxious since the pain started and didn't knowwhat to make of it. The docs tell me costo but they also said it should clear soon. Its been 2 weeks and its still there. I must admit it is a lot less painful now but that is why i think it maybe something else.

Have you ever had it when it isn't that tender to touch but certain movements trigger pain?

Other people describe it as a very sharp pain, which it was for 2 days but mine is now more of a dull burning sensation, have you ever experienced that?

I really hate this and just wish it would go!

i am having a severe flare with costo right now. We buried my older brother yesterday, and the pain started as soon as I found him. It hurts like heck and affects both sides and goes to my back by my shoulder blades. Today will be the first day I will be able to relax and reflect back, and will do it with moist heat.
It does take time to go away, and yes, certain movements put me in terrible pain.
My pain is sometimes dull and then sometimes stabbling. I do feel for you. Take care of youself

Tootiebug i am so sorry to hear of your loss! My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Thank you for responding, the pain i am experiencing is just a dull nagging pain and its been lingering for almost 3 weeks now. I have tried everything but no joy. It just causes me so much anxiety.

My breast bone has been sore for a year and I have sore places on my ribs that have been there for a year but besides wearing a bra I don't know it's there unless I do something to aggravate it. Lifting things makes me sore, riding in the car for long periods make me sore. I have tender spots all around my breast. Is it costo or fibro, I don't know.

luv and hugs
