My bloodwork stated that I am only mildly Vitamin D deficient.  My level was 25.  The nurse said the norm is 32-100.  The doctor still wants me to take a supplement.  He said to take Vitamin D 1,000 IU a day.

Should I look for anything in particular with this supplement, or just go to the drugstore and buy the cheapest Vitamin D they have?  Also, should I look out for any side-effects?

Thank you so much for your time. :-)    Blessings, Julie

I'm low in vitamin D and just buy mine at Walmart.  I have had no side affects.  I do get a lot of D in my calcium supplements and multi vitamin, too.

Julie: My vitamin D was 13 when I was first dx'd with fibro in April. I was put on a Rx of 50,000 iu/weekly for 2 months, then went down to monthly, all the whille taking a daily supplement of 1000 iu.

Recently when my vit D level was checked it was up to 25. My doc wants to get that up, so I'm back to 50,000 iu/weekly, along with the daily 1000iu.

I buy the liquid gels which are a bit more expensive, but I find them at Walgreens, often on a BOGO sale. One of the big names in supplements (not sure if I can mention the brand here) offers 14 day samples of various supplements on their website. I had everybody I knew ordering samples for me, which got me through for months! That same brand has coupons available both on their website, and often in the All You magazine found only at Wal-mart (it's usually full of coupons, and well worth the couple dollars it costs).

Hope that helps you.

Gentle Hugs,
another Julie

I was put on a prescription vitamin d because mine was so low I would have had to have taken too many of the otc d vitamins. I took them for about a week and could not tolerate it (the rx) and it is so odd because now my labs are normal. (well. still abnormal but normal for me if that makes sense) I then went crazy with eggnog (yes, gross but the sweet yummy-one) and this was all last year at this time and the eggnog helped me gain some desperately needed weight and I didn't need a supplement after that. :)

Make sure that it is vitamin D3. And says Cholacalcifloral (sp). That is the D that you want. It helps me. I take 2000iu each day.

I hope that it helps you.

Hugs, karen
