Sitting here thinking what should I do?

Waiting on blood results for lupus and lyme.  So I'm being treated.. I know it take time.  Told its Fibro by my docs.  I had MRI's and CT last week..all negative.  MY ana is 1:64 but told by rheumy she doesn't think it lupus. SO I'm waiting...

But been flare mode for a month now.  Well, I'm trying to be a trooper..but last night my throat muscles felt like a mild cramp was it..so I took a muscle relaxer to sleep and to get the muscle to relax.  Well, this morning I feel like its a lil better, but I can't seem to get the phelm (sP?) to go all the way down and feels slightly numb in my throat.  I became accustomed to the weak throat feelng for 8 years.  When I swallow today, I got a sharp (pin like) feeling in my ear and the back of throat (like ouch!!).

I just took a nerve relaxer -vistril- to calm me down..so I dont panic.  I been to the ER  at least 5 times in the past month. Don't want to go today.. they look at me like I'm crazy.. I'm scared to be honest.  And they never do anything..but give me pain meds for muscles and say follow up with my doctor.   Its the holiday and I feel so helpless. My kids are ready to spend time at Grandma and eat.  I had and barium swallow 2 years ago and a esphogaus scope.. mild leakage when swallowing (nothing significant they said) and the scope showed nothing.

Can anyone offer some advice, I don't know what they (hospital/docs) can do for me anyway?  I'm so emotionally
torn today.

Sorry if my spelling is not up to par today..

Hi KEO8,

All that I can say is try to relax and enjoy your day. Eat slowly and chew your food really good. Hopefully your throat will be okay.

The kids are excited to see Grandma and have dinner. That sounds so prescious.

I know that I am not much for good advice right now. But wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

Luv and Hugs, Karen

KE08.............(((((((hugs))))))))))
Just have faith that this will pass. It WILL pass. You aren't going to die.
Can you sit quietly somewhere and try to relax and listen to something like your favorite music, or look out the window at the birds?
Sometimes the opposite helps me........get immersed in work of some kind to distract yourself.
You ARE okay KE08. Everything will work out. Try to believe that! Sometimes our bodies try to scare us, and we just can't fall for it. You will be okay. :)

So much of this sounds like anxiety.  It's amazing what that can do to you.  I agree with Karen and Cathy.  Try to relax.  I don't think it's anything serious.  You are dwelling on illness so much so please stop thinking about it and worrying about it.  That will do you absolutely no good.  You probably have fibro and nothing else.  Why worry and have a lousy holiday because of something you THINK you have!  You are probably worrying for no reason.  So, please relax, visit with your family and enjoy your meal.  If you believe in God, turn it over to Him and then go have a wonderful day.

Thanks Sherri:

I feel like a fool for posting that msg.  Yes, its probably fibro or whatever. I'm made a decision not to post like that again..so sorry.. I'm  very embarrassed.  I know its other things that are seriously wrong but I must be patient and wait for tests. God has got me this far, but it is still alarming when you feel you cant swallow and pinching sensations in your throat etc.

.

Sorry fo being a nusinance.

I appreciate all of you guys feedback. I hope all of you enjoy your holiday.  Take Care

Never feel like a fool for posting. Your posts are probably helping more people than you know. Many people cannot put into words your symptoms and they need a voice to.

Besides, with any chronic illness people need to share their feelings. Anxiety is real to you. Do not be ashamed of it.

Happy holiday, Donnaeil

I used to experience a strange sensation in my throat.  Sometimes it felt swollen, like a lump.  Sometimes it felt hard to swallow.  I was diagnosed with something called "Globus Hystericus."  (Funny name, lol!)  It is not dangerous at all.  The symptoms tend to get worse when we are stressed, having anxiety, or panicking.  I'm not trying to diagnose you, but this was my experience.  Once I realized that it wouldn't "hurt me,"  I felt better.  It's also known as Globus Pharyngitis.  Try a google search for more info.  I hope you are feeling better.  Blessings, Julie :-)

Oh KEO...first of all I hope you were able to enjoy Thanksgiving despite all your anxiety and pain.  I went to my son's for dinner and as much as I love my daughter-in-law's parents, they are very loud, all talk at once...never finish a sentence before they start another one...You get it.  After four hours, I had to leave.  They were washing dishes before my husband was done eating!

Second of all, if you read through some of the threads that I have posted, you will NEVER feel like an idiot. These poor moderators must see my user name pop up and break out in a sweat.  In the past two weeks, I have dragged a pair of underpants that got caught at the bottom of my pant leg through a casino.  I have worn a pair of new shoes with the tissue paper still in the toes and couldn't figure out why my legs were in a spasm.  You can always come here.  ALWAYS.  It is the kindness, most gentle site of any forum on the Intenet.

Waiting for test results is hard. And I have had the 'throat-thing' you describe a million times.  As uncomfortable and scary that it is, it is not dangerous.  I was in a restaurant once and had it happen.  I excused myself, ran to the ladies room and spit the food out in the toilet because I didn't want to 'choke' in front of my friends.

You hang in there, girl.  You will get through it.

donna

KE08,

You don't ever need to apologize for asking for help or wanting advice.  Good Lord, have you seen some of the stuff I've posted? shocked   LOL  It does sound like you might be having anxiety.  Until last year, I had never had any type of real anxiety.  Now, sometimes I feel like a crazy woman.  BTW-I've always been a little bit nutty, but I thought it was just part of my charm. wink

The one good thing about coming here is that we do know how you feel.  OMG, if I hear one more person (without fibro) that says, "I know exactly how you feel", I'll scream! mad    And, even though we all have fibro, we all handle it differently.  We all handle stress differently, too.  Some of us freak out (pointing to myself wink ), some of us do deep breathing, some pray, etc.  You just need to find what works for you.  If you need to post something, go ahead.  No one should ever judge you because of how you feel. shakehead

BTW-are you being treated (like, are you getting meds, etc) for lupus?  Like you, I've had 2 different low positive ANAs, but my rheumy was just treating me for fibro.  I wonder if I started getting meds if I'd feel better.  Just a random thought.  LOL-I've got lots of them. tongue

Anyway, I hope you are feeling better. :-)
FINALLY dxd with fibro on 06/13/08
Vicodin, Neurontin, Ibuprofen for pain-which doesn't help, BTW
Zoloft & methadone (NOT for pain) for sanity-which doesn't help, BTW
Klonopin for anxiety (Guess what?  Doesn't help!)
Chantix (quit smoking 08/29/08)

Hi KE,

First off ((((((((((((((((((((((((big but gentle hugs))))))))))))))))))))))))).  Like the others have said, you never ever have to be embarrassed about posting how you feel.  Sometimes by just being honest and letting your fingers do all the talking, you can post some very real emotions that will trigger a great response from people.  Not only helping you, but it can help others too.  This is a safe place to just be real!  I also think that anxiety is contributing to how you were feeling.  Anxiety is another very large symptom of Fibro.  We all have varying degrees of it.  I just started taking Zoloft for my anxiety and it's working fantastic!!!

You have a lot on your plate and some tests to return.  I hope you have a good weekend where you can relax and enjoy!

Blessings,
Ginny

I read on the forum once, that if you have trouble swallowing, try coughing and then swallow. It does something to the muscles to help you. Maybe that will help next time you are having problems.

Wow..thanks everyone for the support... I feel a lot better!! The meds I'm on are: motrin, cymbalta, prilocet, vistril and vitamins.
I was given predinsone in the ER - took it for 5 days..didn't help one bit..so stopped taking them. I do think its anxiety too..the sleep apnea really freaks me out..can't not wait to get that sleep study. Im schedule for an emg in 3 weeks..I had 2 of them in the past 6 years and the rest of the test, evoke potiential, MRIs, bone and cat scan.

I decided to make an appointment with the GI doc again and my cardiologist next month too. Since I haven't had a scope in over 2 years (something is going on- spasms and needle/pin feelings in my throat). My ekg was abnormal but no heart attack.. no one mentioned it to me. But I read it in my medical papers I that I have. I also have a herina that they didn't mention to me either. REgardless if its harmless or not, docs should tell you everything-AS MONEY THEY GET FROM US!!
Therefore, I can go into the new year with less anixety and put some of my fears to rest. The only test I never had is a spinal tap and a muscle biopsy.

I want to start the new year with new thoughts and an attitude. If its FIBRO.. so be it. I pray that all it is. I will wait to see what my test reveal. In the mean time I will ask for some paxil or something, the vistril helps but its short term only.

Thanks again to everyone ((((((hugs right back at ya!!)))))

KE08,
I'm glad you're feeling better. But did you just stop the prednisone cold turkey recently?? You just can't stop taking steroids suddenly. You have to go down slowly on them for a little while. Actually, just being on the steroids can make you crazy too. So if you were on them recently, that definitely could have contributed to this recent anxiety.

Usually prednisone is a five day boost. You start out taking more and work your way down. (If I am remembering right).

I am happy that you are relaxing. You should really try to keep the anxiety down. Worrying only depletes your energy and makes the pain worse. Like you said, just wait until you get your results. Try really hard not to think about it. And stress and worry can cause other symptoms. I became a diabetic when worrying about my family. And it was something that I had no control over. Eventually I had to distance myself for my own good. Eventually it all became diet contol and no medications. But if I would have not distanced myself, I know that I would have had to go on medication. Now with the fibromyalgia, I have gained weight. I am worrying that when I get my blood work next week, I might have high blood sugar. Does that do me any good at all? No. So I am trying to keep my mind busy and do meditation to keep my mind clear and relax. Because if I don't my blood sugar will be up just from the stress.

I guess what I am saying is we should not worry about things that we have no control over. Like when you will get your test results. You can't speed them up. You don't have control over what they will show. So really, try to relax and when they come, they come. I hope that this makes some sense.

I hope that everything comes out good for you.

Best wishes,
hugs, Karen

Hi Keo. . . I hope you are feeling better now. Thank you for your post, because it helped me out a lot. I was feeling the same thing having anticipatory anxiety over the holiday, and I'm glad to know I was not the only one worrying about ruining it for anybody else :) You are such a good and caring person to worry about that, and should be patting yourself on the back for being such a nice and considerate person :) Have a nice day, and hop on over to the Anxiety and Panic Disorder forum. We are a motley crew over there :) You will find many resources to help you relax. One of them, (and I hope it's okay to post it over on this forum just remove the link if not:) is called MoodGYM, and it is absolutely free. I would recommend this program for anyone. It never hurts to have a good mood booster :)
