Hello, I'm 23 (female) and I have a major skin problem. I don't have health insurance , so I can't see a doctor.

The problem with my skin is that it's VERY sensitive to touch and sound. Certain tones of sound really irritate my skin and my body, I have to step out of the room when my children cry too loud. Also if someone rubs there skin on anything and I hear it, I just kills me. Other sounds are ok. I'm fine with watching a movie on loud or people talking loud. It seems to be just certain frequencies that drive me nuts.

Another problem is that I can't stand the touch of any rough to semi-rough materials. My clothes have to be soft cotton. I can't even stand my husband touching my skin, even the warmth of this hand irritates my skin. I don't get any rashes or anything, it's just very irritating and painful. I shampooed my sons hair the other day and my hand was agitated for 2 hours.

This condition is hurting the relationship I have with my husband. He has to stay on his side of the bed at night and we can't even cuddle. He's very understanding but I still feel horrible for not letting him touch me anymore. This all seems to have started a couple years ago and has been slowly progressing. Any idea's on what It could possibly be? or what I can do ? Thank you so much for your time.

Here is some other info on other conditions I have (don't know if it'll help, but it might)

1. I have depression ( I'm not on medication anymore cause I lost my health insurance)
2. I have chronic constipation
3. I have mild anemia (my previous doctors have all said that I have low white blood count and that I need to take iron pills, but I never have and I'm still standing today, so i'm guessing that it's not that serious).

I've had the chronic constipation since I was born, but I've only been depressed for 7 years or so.

Just an added note; I am not diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, I just posted under here because I've seen almost similar posts here.

Hey there, Mrs. C, and welcome! I am glad you joined the forum and are using this resource. I am not a doc and can not answer your questions- and I understand that you have lost your insurance, and for that I am so sorry. I just wanted to ask if you have a regular doc or GP; if so, can you ask for samples for the anti-depressant you were taking? I think its important that you stay on it. Are they aware that you have no insurance but are dealing with some serious health challenges and need their help? Also some questions- does your skin tear or bruise easily? Do you run a fever? When you say your hand was agitated after washing hair, can you describe it? Lets do some research on skin irritations. Let us know how you are doing.

My skin doesn't bruise or tear much easier than your average person. I probably only bruise a tad easier cause my low white blood cell count. I don't run a fever, but I do get sick more than your average person. my immune system is crap (not horrible, but not great either).

After washing my sons hair that way my hand was agitated is hard to describe. It was like carpet burn with a painful tingling, but no marks or discoloration.

Hello, I wanted to welcome you to the boards! You have come to a wonderful place to help you in your search for answers. I'm sorry you have no insurance, but hopefully you will get some ideas to help steer you in the right direction and find a doctor that can help you. I don't have the sensitive skin, but I do understand that some other here with fibro do. I am very sensitive to noise though.
Waiting for appointment with rheumy (March 2009) to get an official dx. waiting, waiting, waiting....

Hello...and welcome to my world of 'skin sensations!'  The skin on my legs feels, tight, crawling and I can feel the texture of the fabric against them like the cloth is embedded in shards of glass.  If I'm not leaving the house, I wear cotton or flannel pajama bottoms all day long.  Sweat pants that have been washed a few times and the inside gets 'nubby'...forget it!  I also am sensitive to sound, smells and taste.  Once last year, I ate some mandarin oranges and had that tart taste in my mouth for a week.  Don't know the answer to this one, except these annoying sensations are a part of Fibro.  I too, do not have insurance.  I have a wonderful doc that gives me my Lexapro I need for anxiery for nothing...samples.  I also take valium for the restless leg I was diagnosed with...I only take it at night and it is $4.00 at Walmart.  A good, compassionate doctor will give you suggestions on how to diagnose and manage your symptoms without selling your house to pay for it.

I FEEL for you, literally!
