Well...it's sleeting here and lots of freezing rain so I can't go anywhere...that leaves me checking the forum every once and awhile...just thought I'd toss this ridiculous 'topic' in...

Have any of you seen the ad for the Genuine Leather Buxton Over the Shoulder Organizer, and what that women puts inside the stupid thing?  I carry stuff around in my coat pockets because the weight of any purse hurts!  So my hubby sees this ad and wants to know if I would like one for Chritmas, as he thinks my 'pocket' purse' is because I just haven't found one that I like.  I DID NOT say "are you completely out of your mind...that thing would collapse my spine and bring me to my knees."  I just said 'no thank you...it's too big.'

Who can carry around an umbrella, two bottles of water, a four pound wallet, more make up then the cosmetic counter at Lord and Taylors...a dog leash, about fifty sets of keys, an address book, cell phone, sun glasses, etc...in a purse that won't herniate a disc or two???  Then smile as she power walks down the street with it banging aginst her hip...Oh if only!

Do any of you have problems with finding a purse that doesn't hurt your shoulder or back?  I have tried back packs, those small wallet-things with a strap...fanny packs that are sooo 80's and uncool...I just use my pockets for the necessities because I have run out of ideas.(I don't even put my wallet in my pockets....just the credit/debit card that I might need and some ID.}

Hugs

Hi Donna-

I still carry a purse. But the minute I get into a store, I grab a cart and put my purse in the child seat in the front and watch it like a hawk. In Vegas I use the fanny pack - comfort/security over style!

I got a kick out of the over the shoulder org. commercial too. :)

Ya but have any of you gone to the site where they sell that and read the comments? Its like Buxton.com, tons say it smells like diesel fuel, the bag pockets rip the strap fails and so on. Well the other day I saw it being sold in walmart in its origional box and I took one out. It had to carry a couple of midget waters. This purse was way smalllllllllll and the strap is just make of straping material like you pull your suitcase with and would cut in to your shoulder. Very low quality and cheap "leather". I on the other hand do have a mondo purse that I put everything in and ya it does hurt but its by Guess so at least it looks good while killing my back and shoulders lol. I make Jayson carry it for me alot. I can do a small backpak as long as it has very padded straps and isnt too heavy. It actually helps me stand more upright cause it pulls back my shoulders. But pretty much most things do hurt, how can they not when it hurts to even be touched most days?

I have to laugh at that commercial too. Not only does it seem liek a lot to carry, but how in the world are you supposed to remember where you put all htis stuff in the first place? My new purse works really well for me right now. It has short handles that just fit on my shoulder. I don't notice the weight as much since my arm keeps it really close to my body. And it's big enough to carry the kids' snacks, a water bottel and diapers too! But I do ditch it in the cart as soon as I can.

Okay..I'm going to tell the whole truth.  I have left my heavy purse in a cart so many times they know me at the local super market.  I have been very fortunate that no one has ever stolen it...I get a call from Justin, the 'cart boy' and he saves it for me.  I have left my ATM card in the machine...which as you know, eats it after it has been in the slot for more than five minutes.  I left my keys in the car while it was running, shut the door, ran to other side of the road to get a paper and the door locked automatically after 30 seconds.  Do you know how much it costs to have someone come and 'break into your car"?  Left my cell phone in a coat pocket that a day later I decided to donate to the Salvation Army.  Sooo...hubby thought this organizer was just the perfect gift for me!  I don't think it would help anyway...somehow, even hung around my neck and secured to my waist, I would still lose it!

I have a "Healthy back" purse from LL Bean. I really like it, except it's expensive and I want one of the leather ones now. It has a leather piece in the strap that keeps it from sliding off my shoulder. I guess I have really sloping shoulders, because purses always slide off. Diane

Donna, I carry a regular shoulder bag but the strap is short.  When I'm carrying it, the strap is on my arm and the body of the purse is pretty much under my arm and I shove it towards my back.  This is soooo much better than the regular longer straps.  It doesn't have the gravitational pull.  And yes, I carry a pint of water with me in my purse at all times.  When I get in the store, I put it in the shopping cart.  But, this does not hurt my back and I have scoliosis along with fibro.

When I go on trips, I have a smaller version of the bag on TV.  I can put a half pint of water in it, tissues, lipstick, etc.  The back of the purse unzips and there is a place for money, credit cards and a pen.  This doesn't hurt my back either and keeps my hands and arms free.  I found this purse at Dillards.  You wear it across your body like the one on TV.  It's a safer bag to carry on trips.  It's hard to grab it away from you and you "wear" it when out so you don't worry about leaving it someplace.  I have considered that bag on TV.  Just because she wants to carry her "home" in it doesn't mean you have to.  You might like that purse.  Just don't make it too heavy.

I left my purse in the shopping cart in a Walmart parking lot, no less!  I had just run to the bank because I was leaving on a trip the next day.  I had $700 cash in it and my credit cards.  I was nearly home when I realized I didn't have my purse!  I spun around and the car sprouted wings!  LOL  I got to Walmart and the cart was gone but one of the workers spotted my purse and turned it in.  All the money was there!  They are not supposed to accept tips but I talked them into allowing me to give the young man a reward for being so honest.

I have a purse with a short strap and find it so much better than long straps.. that can cut in to yoru shoulders.. i can fit a 20oz bottle of water wallet keys cell phone and anything else i need .... i do have a small purse i take with me when i go to events or travelling... and usually grab a cart when shopping for any length of time

But i must admit i almost bought ones of the bags from the tv ad... then changed my mind... cuz my bf said if you ever get one of those i will kill you

I have seen a nice one at roots that i wouldn't mind but its about 200 and i can't justify that

my purse is the size of a small house. hubby calls it my mary poppins bag. "ooh! here's where she pulls out the lamp and the painting!" he says every time i start rummaging around for something inside of it. he says this like he is just sooo funny. he also says this like i haven't heard it a gazillion times before. *rolls eyes*

the really annoying thing is, my hubby's jokes have even influenced my 6 year old son. every time he sees the commercial of which donna speaks, he points and yells "mommy! you should get one of those!" i think they're the dumbest d*** thing i've seen in a long time. how could possibly fit that much stuff into something so small?? besides, they're ugly!

anyway. yes, i have a super large oversized purse. when i first got it a couple of years ago, i had it crammed full of stuff. i mean, things you would never even think of. i went to a candle party once where we had to play a game where we tried to find things in our purses that started with a certain letter. i won because when we got to "s" i actually had a spoon in my purse. a spoon. i don't even know why i had it or where it came from. (i blame it on a random drive by spooning. that's my story and i'm sticking to it.)

well, over time, the massive weight of the purse began to bother me more and more. so over time, i have gotten rid of some stuff here, more stuff there. i now carry a purse the size of a small house that basically has nothing in it but my wallet, a brush, some tylenol, and a tube of chapstick.

hey! maybe i could really use one of those Genuine Leather Buxton Over the Shoulder Organizers! ;)

I love th mary poppins bit! Sorry to laugh but I have to!

My purse is ok, I try to keep it light. I make it longer and carry it over my should and neck. It hurts, but not real bad. My problem is my camera bag. I have tried so many different styles and they all hurt sooo bad!

One thing I may look into is an army jacket. I had my dad's old jacket in high school and no joke that thing could hold a six pack of soda (yeah we were lame back then never drank, well we had a wine cooler split between 8 of us once!) with room to spare. The pockets on those things are amazing and never put bad weight on my back or shoulders. Of course that was when I was young, who knows now!?
