I don't know if anyone has noticed that I haven't been around a lot this past week, but there has been a lot going on for me and my family.  Besides the fact that I have had the flu for almost a week and my dad had surgery to remove a kidney stone, my beloved Grandma Toots fell and cracked some vertebrae. sad

First of all, I just don't understand our healthcare system. mad   They actually wanted to send my grandmother home from the ER! shocked    Luckily, my uncle, her power of attorney, is an actual attorney.  So, we managed to keep her hospitalized for a whopping 3 whole days before they discharged her back to her assisted living home.  Anyway, she is still in a tremendous amount of pain, and all they have her on is a low dose of Vicodin.  I am not saying that is a bad thing, but obviously if she is still so painful that she is crying, it's not enough pain meds! cry

Anyway, there really isn't much we can do other than give her pain meds...remember, she is 97 years old.  But if you could add her on to your prayer list (and even if you aren't the praying kind of person, if you would just send warm thoughts), I'd really appreciate it. :-)
FINALLY dxd with fibro on 06/13/08

Dear Kelly,

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope Grandma Toots will be okay. She sure is a strong woman for her age. I know that she has you there to help her. That is wonderful for her.

I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Luv and hugs, Karen

Oh I am so sorry for you, Kelly. I understand your frustration. My great grandmother fell in her senior apartment complex...she fell in between the toilet and the bathtub and couldn't get up and she was there for hours till someone checked on her! Luckily she was okay (very shaken up), but it was frustrating that you spend all this money and it seems like people don't care.

I'm glad she's at least resting at home. I will be keeping your grandma in my thoughts. She must be tough!!

Hi Kelly,

I will be keeping your grandma Toots in my prayers too. It's heartbreaking to see a loved one in so much pain.  I hope she gets the medication she needs so badly.

Blessings,

Kelly, I'll be praying for Grandma Toots.  Can't your family talk to her doctor and let them know she is in that much pain?  It sure doesn't sound right, unless the pain meds could interact with her other medication.  That's the only thing I can think of to have her suffer like that.  I know I'd be at the doctor's doorstep!

I hope she starts to feel better soon.  I know how much  you love her.

Kelly, I'm so sorry to hear about your grandma.  Maybe you can talk the dr. into giving her something stronger.  Maybe it's because of her age or something, that they don't give her meds that are stronger.  She must be really tough to make it to 97.

Granma Toots is sure in our thoughts and prayers.  Bless her heart, I know how hard it must be to watch her in that much pain.  You are also in our prayers.  He will make it all better.  Just put your trust in him.

God Bless!

Kelly, my heart goes out to you & Grandma Toots.  I hope you & yoiur father are ok now.  I agree with the others about speaking with her Doctor about more pain meds.  I would have your Uncle, who is her Power of Attorney, speak with her Doctor.  My Grandmother lived until she was 99 & was such an inspiration.  I hope your Grandma gets the meds she needs & you all will be in my thoughts.  Love & hugs, Denise

I just wanted to give everyone an update and thank you for your warm thoughts and prayers.  I have to say that whatever happens, my Grandma Toots is one tough lady!  I went to visit her yesterday, expecting to see her in bed and very painful.  Instead, she was in the shampoo chair getting her hair done! shocked    She always seems happy to see me, and I admit that I spoil her by bringing her candy or cookies whenever I come. smilewinkgrin

Anyway, my dad said she was very happy (some of this "happy" was from the Vicodin wink ) last PM at dinner and even had her makeup on! :-)    I'm not delusional and I know one day her little 97 year old body will give out, but all I want for her is to not be in pain.  So far, I think I've gotten my wish.  BTW-she's doing so well, we are planning on bringing her home to the house for Xmas dinner.  I'm attempting to cook part of the meal, so I hope everything works out OK. smhair

Again, you have no idea how much I appreciate everything y'all do for me. :-)

And now we know why Grandma Toots has lived to be 97 yrs old. That is great Kelly and I think we will all take something away from reading this thread, at least I will.
