As some of you know I was uber-sensitive to amitriptylene. My rheumatologist put me on 10mg at bedtime and I was drugged and useless the entire next day. I cut them in half, and I was only drugged til about 5pm. Then I got the pharmacist to cut them in four (2.5mg each quarter). These made me feel drugged until noon, even when I took them at 8 pm. So I gave up on them.

But after reading and reading about everyone else taking much more, and after going on three sleepless nights in a row (one night I was up til 5 am and had to GET up at 7....gak ... what a day from hell that was)...I decided to try again. I smashed the 1/4 of a pill to powder, then measured out half of it with a razor blade. I saw someone do this with cocaine in a movie! LOL

I took it at 6pm, and was asleep by 8. BUT, I was ok in the morning!
So wahoo...I finally found a dosage. 1.25mg...ha ha ha.
But seriously, after a few days I upped it to 2.5, and now I'm taking 5mg/night. I take it at 9 and it puts me to sleep by 11. The next day I feel fine! I don't know if I'll continue to up the dosage or not.

But now, with all 3 medications I actually think I'm feeling ALMOST normal!
I have the month of January off work and then I'm going to try to ease myself back to full-time work. At least by next June.

I'm so thankful for feeling better! Woo hoo!
I have Fibromyalgia, and nothing else!
I take Lyrica 225 mg/day and Tramadol (150mg time-released)

for me it wasn't the dose it was taking it too close to my other meds that made me all doesy and useless the next day....

I found i had to change my med schedule to allow for those so that i had at least 6 hours between the ami and the other meds

ah...interesting. I also take 300mg of Lyrica at night.
Well...I'll keep experimenting. But right now I got this time-released Tramadol and with everything else so long as I sleep I am basically pain-free! Now if I could just get my energy back, I'd be laughin'. Hopefully it's coming...

I'm glad you got it figured out, lol :) Sounds like something I would do. The amitriptylene did the same thing to me when I was younger and I swear I slept almost a month it seems like :)

Hey Schutz,

Your Tramadol will make you drowsy too. All your meds have a sedating effect. DARN!

I hope this dose works for you in the long run. I've had good success being on 30mg of Amitriptyline.  I've also had to adjust the time I take all my meds to avoid being sedated in the morning.  For me, it's the Neurontin that is so bad!!

Good luck!
