I found an interesting article on the history of Fibromyalgia, about the evidence of it's existence in the early 1900's and even in the biblical times!!!! It had a few things about Florence Nightingale, the English Army nurse during the Crimean War who died in 1910, who was thought now to have suffered from Fibromyalgia. For some reason, I could not paste the address to the article here, it would not work.. I would still like to share the one part with you...

This particular part is from the Bible.. a man describing his day-to-day pain which is thought now to also have been Fibromyalgia.. his words hit me like a ton of bricks!!!! This is what he wrote:

“I, too, have been assigned months of futility, long and weary nights of misery. When I go to bed, I think, 'When will it be morning?' But the night drags on, and I toss till dawn…And now my heart is broken. Depression haunts my days. My weary nights are filled with pain as though something were relentlessly gnawing at my bones.”

Almost brought tears to my eyes cry cry

I find that most of my pain is in the morning and throughout the day. I always feel better when it is time to go to bed. And I sleep hard. So to me, this doesn't feel all that familiar. Though I have had pain at night before.

hugs, Karen

I can relate.  I toss and turn all night.  Bedtime isn't much fun because of pain and insomnia.  I go crazy if I can't see the clock.. and I go crazy cause I keep looking at the clock.  I know there's tons of you out there that can empathize with that senario.

That was a good quote - JC!!

O Patti, I am right there with you...I have so much trouble sleeping and MUST be able to see the clock, probably so I can torture myself and knnow how long I've been tossing and turning, although turning causes so much pain, I try not to do that very often.

I take Ambien, and I get off it every three weeks, for one week, so that it will work again. Lately that doesn't seem to help. Yes, I'm miserable

Interesting to read of some so long ago felt the same as we do. I myself just today am battling my pain that woke me at 4 am. I wonder how they could stand the pain/aches/insomnia without the aids we have know to get us through sometimes. Uff Da!

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, well, when I am ready to go to sleep I often can't because the pain gets so bad. I find that my pain tears start rolling often times at night. And if I do happen to fall asleep right away, the pain wakes me up... that is why I felt I could relate so well. I'm glad some of you related also.

JCgurl: That is awesome! I can totally relate. Do you happen to know what the biblical citation is? If not, that's okay, I can always use an online concordance to find it. I'd like to keep that in front of me (and my family!)

thanks so much for sharing - bless you!

Yes, thanks. I wondered if it was Job, since he suffered so. I appreciate it!
