OK, so I dropped my darn rheumy who is driving me and two other drs nuts (one even said to report him to the hospital- I won't go into it here.) So now I'm just seeing my pain dr and another rheumy (but not that often) The pain dr is always worried about me. So the last visit he gave me samples of Amrix to try. And they're working! my muscles still feel sore, but not anywhere as tight as they were! I can now tell "normal" pain from fibro pain! I can tell the difference between my arthritis pain and fibro pain! Now I just need to work on that pain! Hee hee.
To prove that it's working for me? I went out and shoveled for 3 hours (did it slowly) this least weekend and felt better by tuesday instead of two weeks later like it used to be! My arm muscles have relaxed for the first time in over 8 months! I'm still taking pain medication due to pain, but it's no where near as bad as it was, sometimes I can go a day or two or more without taking a vicodin! I'm sleeping much better too.
Now the negatives, VERY dry mouth (not helped at all by the cold air outside and heaters running all the time) and I am tired, but not as bad as without the medication. I can fall asleep if I'm home with not much to do, but at work and running around I don't feel that horrible need to just lie down all the time. When I do nap it's only for less then an hour! Before the medication I was napping 3 hours a day on the weekends after sleeping 11 hours at night!
I've had problems with mental health (like sadness and anxiety) but there are some outside components to that so I'm not sure if it's worsened by the medication or not.
For those of you who don't know about it, Amrix is an extended release flexeril. Taken two hours before bedtime. Flexeril did nothing for me. This is.
The only thing worrying me is everywhere I read it says taken only for 2-3 weeks, my dr said to keep taking it if it's working. It's doing so well I don't want to stop it. I had an issue this week that I thought was a bad side effect and I was scared they'd take me off it, but it turned out to be something else so I was ok.
Anyway I thought I'd let you guys know how I was doing and how good I feel!
Hope everyone is well, or as well as we can all be! :-)

Hello Kris,
I am happy for you! So glad you found something that will work for you. You sure use to sleep alot. I can't imagine sleeping that much. I guess I'm a little jealous. :-)

It's nice to hear you have a doctor that seems to REALLY care. Stick with em'.

As for today I am home from work, called in a sick one, cuz I didn't sleep worth a darn and I woke up with a major tension headache. :-(

Til next time,

Hi Kris,

I am so happy that the amrix is working for you. I use to take flexeril but it did nothing but make me tired. I now take soma. But I can imagine that a time released muscle relaxant would work wonders. Best of luck with the amrix. I am happy that you finally found something that helps so much and that you can take less vicodin.

Best wishes for a painfree day.

Hugs, Karen

I'm glad it is working for you Kris. I tried flexeril for my neck and it didn't help so I haven't tried it since. I did write the amrix on my list to talk to rheumy about next visit. I keep a list going from one visit to another of what has helped others on here cause you never know.
luv and hugs

internet dancing is a lot more easier than RL. ;P

I'm happy for you :D I've also just recently changed meds and the one I'm on now is helping lots :D

I've never taken muscle relaxants for my fibro, usually stuff just for my serotonin levels... which seems to help with all sorts of things :D
Diagnosed with Fibro - October 2008

Venlafaxine 70mg/Armitriptyline 40mg to help me sleep and anxiety

Ativan... when things get real bad.
