I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia last week and I didn't really notice this until then, but my heart was racing and beating really hard. I can actually see my pulse (or feel the effect of) in my eyes. I am also experiencing blurry vision and it doesnt really seem that my vision is as good as it was (just 6 months ago). Is this related to Fibro or the anemia or what?? I understand that because of the anemia diagnosis, this maybe something that is related to it, but I have had NO luck elsewhere, as far as anyone relating exactly. The doc didnt really seem too concerned, but I am waiting on an appt. with my optometrist. Thanks to anyone with suggestions or any sort of reply!! God Bless...

hi there,

i have experienced this, too-racing heartbeat and a sense of being able to feel my heart racing, without actually feeling for a pulse. i haven't had the sensation in my eyes before, though.

i, too, am mildly iron deficient, but also have recently found out that i have an issue with a slight b-12 deficiency. dr. said it's from my long term use of GERD medicine (apparently surpressing stomach acid can inhibit the absorption of b-12)have you tried taking b-12 supplements? i've been on 2,000 mcg per day for 3 days now and i am noticing a definite improvement. you can also get b-12 injections, but i don't have insurance and so go the supplement route.

i hope this helps some and also hope you start feeling better soon!

Hello there! I have experienced this as well, the racy heartbeat, felt it only a few times ever in my eyes, but in my head I have pretty many times.. I used to be very iron-deficient as well, but not for a few years I believe.. I was just checked a bit ago and they said everything looked great. All I changed was that I take a women's one-a-day daily with 100% iron in it, and I also eat lots and lots of broccoli (not everyone's favorite food I know, but, I love it! tongue ), nuts, and whole grains like cereals, rice, & pasta's.. all rich in iron!
I also have a lot of vision problems as of recently.. plan on talking to my rheumy about it when I go next week. I think it is related to the Fibro..

Can't say I've ever experienced this. But, I have never been iron deficient either. Hm...makes you wonder if the two are related?

I am currently on a blood pressure medication because the doctor noticed that my pulse rate is always above 90. He thinks it is due to having adrenalin rushes. I don't have an iron deficiency. But my heart always felt racing and I even went to the hospital once because my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest.

I haven't experienced anemia personally, but my mom has it.  She has always had a fast pulse (so have I, but I'm not anemic).  Besides being anemic, my mom also has diabetes (controlled by oral meds), osteoporosis, and GERD.  She takes iron pills that make her reflux go crazy.  Also, I'm not sure, but she may have had high blood pressure until it was controlled by meds.  She does NOT have fibro.

I will ask her if she ever has (or has had) blurry vision.  If she did, it was probably due to her high BP.  I will definitely get back to you about this (but it may be a few days cause I'm moving this weekend).  BTW-like most of us, I've seen many doctors who don't seem concerned about certain things, and then I find out that he or she should have been very concerned. mad   My opinion is go with your gut, and if you feel a 2nd (or 3rd) opinion will help, then go for it.  Remember, this is your life you're talking about!

Good luck with everything! :-)

FINALLY dxd with fibro on 06/13/08

Zoloft & methadone (NOT for pain) for sanity-which doesn't help, BTW
Klonopin for anxiety (Guess what?  Doesn't help!)
Aciphex for reflux

Alex, I am anemic and also have heart palpatations.  I had my heart checked out to make sure there was nothng else going on.  So, yes, this can be fibro.

Thanks so much to everyone who has replied!! I do have generalized anxiety disorder and bouts with ocd as well... that has in the past presented itself religiously but now is turning back to my health...AARRGGHH, which is worse?! Well, I would definitely say that the religious was worse for me..terrible terrible things I went through..but enough about that!!! Anyway, it seems that this usually happens when my heart is beating kinda hard, like the day I had initially went to the E.R., and found out that I was anemic, which was last week. I am on ferrous gluconate..I am supposed to be taking 3 pills a day, but have forgotten a couple of pills here and there , so I am really hoping that this is just because of the anemia and that it will resolve itself in a couple of weeks on the iron pills. But I had started having blurry vision as well, and I think that could be more related to the fibro than anemia but not sure..I read on a website last night that some people have to frequently change their prescriptions because of the changes in their eyes and I am crossing my fingers on that one!! I used to have high blood pressure but I stopped that med and one for my fast pulse back in 2006..because I was so sick and tired of taking meds everyday, I know I know, it wasn't the smartest thing to do, however I have not had a prob with my bp doc got really mad at me at first (he knows me well though, and how I am with pills, I dont know how many times he has written a prescription for something and on the follow up visit, took one look at me and could figure out that I had not taken the first pill!) but when he seen that my bp had straightened itself out, he was happy for me. I havent really had trouble with my pulse racing either until the anemia (I have really wicked periods, this last time, I started on November 20 and didnt stop until the second week of Jan!!) so I am confident with my decision of removing unnecessary meds from my life!! I get really anxious taking any sort of medicine (the GAD!) I always picture the medicine going into my body like the way they show things on the Fox program House...not a good show to watch when you have GAD! Funny story though just to let you know how nervous I really am..The day that I went to the E.R., I was of course hooked up to the heart monitor..apparently the guy next to me was too, and his machine went off, the beeping kinda noise,,and my pulse went from high 70's to like 109 because I thought that it was my machine! The nurse was like you really have to calm down!!! Anyway, now that I have talked you to death I would just like you to know that if I can ever do anything for any one of you just let me know, and I wish you guys nothing but great health in the future...God Bless
