Interesting forum yall have here- I found it when I Googled "neck pops cracks hurts." So here is my issue- I am hurting and I have no idea what is wrong. For over a year now my neck, upper back and shoulders pop, crack and hurt when I move them. I can bend my neck down and up and it sounds like a bowl of Rice Crispies. This winter when it gets really cold, every single joint and muscle in entire body hurts. I can describe the pain like this- do you remember as a kid when you would run or play all day and your muscles would get so sore and tired- well, that's how I feel all the time now in my muscles and joints. I don't know what is wrong. My doc keeps prescribing anti-inflammatory meds but all they do is mess my stomach up. Do I have fibromyalgia or arthritis?
Diagnosed with Mixed Bipolar Disorder with hallucinations, PTSD, OCD and Major Depression since 1994.

Hi dude and welcome to the family!!

We can't diagnose you, obviously...but it's possible you could have fibro. All over body pain is a very tell-tale sigh of fibro and if tests show no reason for it them often it's fibro. Ask for a referral to a rheumatologist. They are who can confirm fibro and if it's arthritis they are the right one also.

I too have PTSD and that's sure no fun either. Some of the symptoms of PTSD are common to fibro...like sensitivity to light, loud noise, and temperature. about the popping in the neck area..that might be arthritis. I have it in my neck and it does make yucky noises...lol

Hey Dude, welcome, this really is a great place.  I have the neck, shoulder & back pain due to my Fibro.  When I am flaring, just about every joint I have pops & cracks.  I often don't realize I am flaring but then I will stand up & my knees will pop & crack & then, I know.  "Ah, (light bulb moment) I am going into a flare."  LOL I am a little slow on the uptake, sometimes.  Chutz gave you some good advice.  That will be a good start to finding out what the dx is.  It can be a long road to a diagnosis but stop in here & let us know how it's going.  I think we all know how the pain feels, it is nice to have people understand what you mean when you say "I hurt".  The cold has just about done me in this year.  Hugs, Denise

I have:  Fibromyalgia, CFS, Holt-Oram Syndrome, nasal allergies, depression, TMJ

Meds: Ibuprofen 600mg every 4-6 hours, Cyclobenzaprine 10 mg, Simvastatin 20mg, Citaloram 20mg Melatonin 5mg Sublingual, B12 sublingual, B Complex, Folic Acid, Omega 3

Married to a wonderful supportive husband & between us we have 4 children & 7 grandchildren

Hey dude :-) , as Chutzie has said, all-over, wide-spread body pain and aches can definately be a sign of Fibromyalgia, BUT unfortunately we cannot diagnose you... try and find a rheumotologist and discuss Fibro with him/her if that is what you feel you may have, and also ask about arthritis.. they are two different things, of course with both of them you experience pain, but with Fibro there is no imflammation.. so if Fibro is indeed what you have those anti-inflammatory's aren't going to do a dang thing for yah.. they started out giving me anti-inflammatory's and they also did not give me any relief whatsoever.. then they realized "hey! idea maybe it isn't an inflammatory problem! maybe it is something else.." that is when I thought maybe I was suffering from Fibromyalgia.. my first visit to the Rheumotologist and I was diagnosed with Fibro, indeed. BUT the "popping" and whatnot you experience DOES sound like an arthritis problem.. so, as I say, I can't diagnose you.. discuss both illnesses with a rheumotologist.. they will know for sure! There is a good forum here at healingwell also for arthritis if you want to poke around on that one.. and one for bipolar disorder also, which I have spent a little bit of time on also. I know that can also be a very tough illness to live with (I had a miserable childhood because of it).. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Dude and welcome. We call the snap, crackle, popping the Rice Krispie club. Read the fibro 101 thread, second on first page, it contains a list of fibro symptoms along with a lot of other great info. They do need to rule out everything else it could be before giving a dx of fibro. Actually, with fibro it's the muscles, tendons and ligaments that cause the joint pain. The cold is horrible for us. I do have osteo arthritis along with fibro in several places on my body the hands being the worse.

Read and ask questions and we will be here for you.

luv and hugs

You prob have both fibro and arthritus, it is common to have the two together, antiflammatories are good but you may need more. Get a ref to rheumy. YOu should also ask for a muscle relaxant, most of us are on meds a mile long im afraid. But you may need help with Pain, Sleep,.    Maybe painkiller could help on top of antiflammatory until you get to the reumy.   sue2z turn turn

Welcome Dude,

I have Fibromyalgia & Osteoarthritis in my spine. My neck and shoulders are almost always painful. They make little pops & crackling sounds when I move my neck around. Doc said that was the arthritis. It sounds like you could have both too, but you need to get diagnosed so you can get some relief for your pain.

A Rheumatologist would be great if your doctor could refer you to one. They will usually run all the tests to rule out other things that sometimes act like Fibro. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find out.

Hello and welcome!

It does sound to me like fibro. That's exactly how I discribe my pain to non-fibromites, like I worked out for hours and that feeling of utter SORE the next day.
