I went to an internist today. I need this kind of doctor to prescribe blood pressure
meds, etc. (My previous physician gave up her practice)

He looked at my health problems and said, "You have Fibromyalgia" I have always
known that I have it but I didn't think it was the cause of my pain.

It's scary that he said this because the last time I went to an Arthritis Doctor he
also said, "You have Fibromyalgia," and then HE added, "We have no treatment
for Fibromyalgia. Sorry."

I know quite a bit about Fibromyalgia because I DO have it. I've always had it.
It's not what keeps me from functioning well in my life ... or is it?

Does anybody know anything about a medication called GUISAC ... (I didn't spell
that right)

I hope that between you people and Chronic Pain I'll find some good Pain detectives.

Do you mean guifennison? If so, it's an expectorant usually used to treat congestion and excess mucus. It's the stuff that's in Mucinex, that med on TV with the giant mucous monsters. Some people are using it to treat their fibro. I know a few people that swear by it.

Looking at your list of medical conditions, I think it would be tough to decide what's fibro and what's not.

Thank you, Dagger.

Oh THOSE mucous monsters. I have seen them and because of them I've been
sleeping under my bed so they can't get under there and cause nightmares.

But yes, I do have a nightmare coming on.

Seriously, I will try guifennison. Can't hurt. Eh?

Pamela,
Before you try the guaifenesin, do a little research. It's actually more complicated than you'd think. You may have to change everything from your shampoo to your deodorant. You have to be careful with the dosage or you really flair.

Paul St. Amand and Greg Penniston are both considered experts on Guaifenesin (this is the correct way to spell it). You can do a search and read about it on their websites. Your local library may have their books. They tell you what what brands work best along with dosages and what to watch out for.

I've never had the self discipline to try this treatment. I used to work with Greg's wife so I got to talk to him a lot. You'd think it would be easier when you have easy access to an expert.

It won't hurt you to try the guai without making the changes but, from what they say, it won't help you either.

Dagger,

I probably won't try the Guafenesin. I can barely make it to the store for bread
and milk.

Seven years ago when I first came down with health problems, my neurologist
sugested that I take a trip to St. Amand and Gregg Penniston. Apparently they
have a spa-type place where people can go to regain health. I passed it by because
the pain of riding there was too much not to mention the expense! That's why the
name was familiar to me.

I don't think Fibromyalgia is my primary illness. There's a big, reputable teaching
center in California. The head of the neurology suggested that I have a surgery.
They cut into the back of your neck and fix the areas where there is pain. They
use Cadaver bones for this. My neurology appointment for surgery was 8 minutes.
They were in a hurry - had to make money for the hospital, you know.

You know Greg's wife! That makes you an expert for sure.

Anyway, Fibromyalgia sure plays into my health problems. I've probably had it
since I was 27. It gets worse as time goes by as does my arthritis. Oh woe.

I hope you're doing well. I'm always yakking about my situation and I don't have
a clue as to how you are.

I read the book by doctor Amand. It was so interesting until I got to the end and realized all of the things that you cannot have. You have to change everything. You can't even have mint inyour tooth paste.

I hope that you feel better soon, stick with us, there are many different alternatives out there.

Best wishes for a lovely day.

Hugs, Karen
