As some of you may know I like to take an OTC called 5-HTP.  about 2 weeks ago I ran out and when I went to the store they were out of stock.  I don't drive so I had to wait till my hubby had time to take me back to see if they got any in.  Last week, before I got a new supply, I found myself very very depressed.  I was ready to just say "Leave me alone, I just want to stay on the couch and sleep."  That's exactly what I did for 3 whole days.  I didn't move unless I had to go to the bathroom.

Finally got to the store and bought my 5-HTP and started taking it again.  What a difference.  I guess my body is really low on seratonin because this really helps.  At least I am off the couch and back to my old self.

Thanks for listening.
Gentle hugs,

Gamma

Thanks for posting that Gamma and I'm happy the OTC helps you so very much. I'll be hubby won't let you run out again...lol

To anyone considering taking this, or any other OTC, please tell your doc before taking it especially if you're already on any sort of antidepressant, narcotic pain med or other 'strong' medication. It might be just fine but for those rare times when it's not...please don't take the chance.

Hugs,
Chutzie

You should not take it with an SSRI.

I am glad it is working for you Gamma.

I agree completely with Chutz.  I spoke to my doctor and my pharmacist before taking the 5-htp, to be sure that it would not have an adverse reaction with my meds.

Good reminder  Chutz.

You shouldn't take it with most antidepressants or with tramadol/Ultram.
