I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, well yesterday it did. We come home from the hospital and we had a lot of T-storms yesterday and the garage door opener wouldn't work, yeah power was off, and we were stuck with no way to get in the house since we have no keys to any of the doors. I carry a pocket knife in my purse that has all kinds of tools in it and Ken was able to get in the side door of the garage, which wasn't very comforting cause if he could get in anyone that really wanted to get in could. We will now be putting a dead bolt on that door. This was about 4:00 and it was 7:05 when the power came back on.

My job for the day is to go through every drawer, Ken's office and anywhere that we may have stuck keys to find at least one that fits one of the outside doors and get many copies of it made cause I know we will lose most of them. If I can not find any we will have to change the locks on one of the doors.

It wasn't fun coming home in the pouring rain and not being able to get in the house so thought I would share that with all of you. cry

Marlee, I did that a few years ago.  My daughter was bringing me home from the hospital and she didn't have a house key.  I didn't take my keys with me to the hospital.  It was pouring rain and we sat in the driveway for about 45 minutes.  She was ready to drive me to a Citco station so I could use the bathroom but the power came on.  Boy, was I happy to get in the house!

Oh Marlee I can relate My parents were her from TN to see my daughters dance recital. We had all been out for the day. The plan was for The hubby and parents drop me and Katie off at home so we could get her into her costume. I would leave and take her to Recital Hubby was going to take my parents to get dinner and pick up flowers for recital. My daughter and I get out of the car and Hubby drives away. He has my Keys We did not have cell phones at the time I was able to brake into the house by way of sliding glass door. I wiggled and jiggled it until it opened. I still had no keys to drive my daughter Husband realized it and drove back home to give me my keys we made to recital with out a minute to spare.

So many of us have done this!  I dropped the hubby off to go fishing with some buddies, got home and of course the house keys were still in the house as I depended on the garage to let me in.  The batteries in the door opener had died.  It wasn't raining...it was hotter than the hinges of Hell and I couldn't sit there all day with the car running.  I broke in through a window, bent the crap out of a screen and squeezed in. Owwy.

Marlee,

I am happy that your knife worked. I can just imagine standing in the rain like that. It must of been horrible. I hope that you find your keys and get many copies made.

I now have keys to my house!!!! I have one on one set of my car keys, Ken has one and I have one to give to son or hide somewhere so he can get in the house if something happens and we can't get home to take care of Krissy. Lesson learned, do not rely on garage door opener as your only means of getting in your house. I hope Ken remembered to get a dead bolt for the garage door cause our house is not as safe as we thought it was, thank God.

We would have had a long wait if we hadn't been able to get in Sherrine. The aggravating part was it was only out on our side of the street. I was tired and had just eaten a fish sandwich from Wendy's that wasn't sitting well and would have probably broken a window if he hadn't gotten the door open when he did. I knew Jason had checked all the windows to make sure they were locked when Ken was in the hos and I was staying alone.

I'm glad to hear we aren't the only people that do these things. tongue
