Just went to the eye dr because I have been getting really bad headaches behind my right eye mostly, sometimes my left one also.  According to the dr. since my last visit (6 months ago) I have gone up 1.5 whatever the prescription is, plus have to have bifocals, plus since I cannot line things up and am loosing my depth perception, have to have prisims put in my lenses.  He said the reason I am hurting in my eye so bad is there is alot of swelling, he thinks because I am having to strain so hard to focus.  My pcp said I have to go to an opthamologist to have additional testing done to make sure nothing has developed that is pushing on my eye.  Anyone else had this happen so quickly?

Hi Mom!!

I'm not sure how old you are but when I was about 38 my eyesight started to go.  I needed to wear reading glasses for close stuff now I'm 51 (ugh.. how the heck did that happen..hahaha) and I'm on my 5th prescription in as many years (5).  Depending on your age that could be part of the problem.  I always had eyestrain when I would be examined.. because of straining.  I also have chronic dry eye.  That can really mess with your vision, due to the dryness.

But the big question is why are you suffering from the pushing on your eye.. Get your bloodpressure checked.  The same thing was happening to my mom to (or at least what I think the same thing is), the eye doctor told her to check her BP and it was skyrocketing.  All it took was getting her BP meds straightened out and she never had a problem again (that all occured 8 years ago).  I hope its that simple for you, too.

Keep us posted on how you're doing. I'll be interested in what you learn.. my husband is legally blind and eye issues really fascinate me.

Take care,

Patti

Before I got diagnosed with fibro I woke up one morning to put my contacts in... and my vision had dropped drastically. At first I assumed it was the contacts, and changed them... but my vision still was really bad. So I went to the eye doctor and my perscription had gotten worst my one point in each eye.

I've always had vision problems but nothing that happened that quickly. I occationally get eye pain, but not often.

I wonder how many other people with fibro have vision problems.

My perscription is -6.00 -7.00, and has been getting worst since I was a child.
Diagnosed with Fibro - October 2008

Venlafaxine 70mg/Armitriptyline 40mg to help me sleep and anxiety

Ativan... when things get real bad.

I have always worn glasses. I got my first pair when I was 2, my first bifocals in the 2nd grade, hard contacts+glasses in the fourth grade, and so on. My prescription is -8.75 and -9.25 for distance and I don't remember what he said my reading prescription is. The really strange thing is a few years ago my eyes were -9.0 and -9.25, then last year they improved to -7.25 and -7.50, then WHAM this year (actually the last couple of months) they have just really gone down hill. This whole thing just really has me wierded out, espically now that my pcp is concerned. My optometrist pretty much ordered my glasses and told me to wear them a couple of weeks to see if the swelling and strain went down. My PCP told me I couldn't afford to wait 2 weeks and scheduled my with an opthamologist Wednesday.

Make sure to let us know what happens with your next appointment. I am over due for new eyeglasses, but can't afford it right now. Hope that I am not ruining my eyes.

I developed an eye problem about 10 years ago, when my body pain was bad too.  At the time I was taking care of my mom who had  Parkinsons.  I don't remember pain but my vision in one eye became very bad over night.  Because I was so busy with mom I let it go for a while, actually several weeks.   When I finally saw an eye doctor I was sent to a retinal specialist. I had something called central serous retinopathy.  I had never heard of it but I think eye pressure is involved.  The eye leaks.  I saw several doctors over the years and they all say it is linked to stress.  I am treated for high blood pressure and was then, but I sometimes wonder if on a really bad day my pressure went too high. My vision is blurred in that eye.  On an eye test I can't read any of the letters on that side.  I would be sure to see a specialist.  I hope your doctors find what is going on with you.  Good luck.  Let us know what happens.

to the doctors standards, i have good sight. although for the past 2 years at night i loose the sight in my left until i turn the light on, no one knows why or how it happened they do think its fibro linked, my eyes also get very tired and i do have to wear glasses to help it.
