HI everyone. I am getting over the flu slowly. I am starting to feel better, but I feel really drained of energy, and my fibro is acting up badly as well. Does anyone else have a problem like this? Does anyone else here get sick with something like the flu and have it make your fibro symptoms flare?

Hi Kitty,

Last year I got the flu and it wound up turning into pneumonia.. it stuck with me for months and I swear the flare that I've been in lately all started back then.  I never really got 100% better. I had some good days here and there but overall not the greatest.  Sorry to sound like a bummer right now, I'm usually pretty positive.  But that was the sickest I have been since my last bout of Lyme Disease back in 1999 and it zapped me for what's feels like forever.

One thing I DID do this year.. was get a flu shot.  I don't ever want to go through that again!!

I sure hope you feel better soon.  Having the Flu and Fibro is just plain awful.  Take good care of yourself and GET WELL!!!!

Warm hugs,

Kitty,
What happened to Patti happened to me a few years back. Just rest as much as you can and take it one day at a time. No use in overdoing trying to get better fast and then just having a relapse. Sending prayers and good wishes your way.

P.S............  I went back to work WAY too early after the pneumonia thing, the doc. told me to take atleast a week off.. I went back after 2 1/2 days, because they "needed me", 7 months later I had to leave my job because of my health.  So, PLEASE, take care of yourself!!!

(Duh... fibro fog, I meant to mention that in my earlier post)

Trying to take it easy. I just feel horrible. I am starving, but I am afraid to eat anything because I don't want to throw it up. I feel fine and horrible at the same time. It feels like it is taking me forever to get better, which sucks. I just want to feel normal again. I can live with pain...it's being sick like this that I can't handle. I am trying to rest as much as possible. It is hard resting sometimes when there are so many things to worry about...especially with an ornery toddler in the house. My husband is doing a great job, but I feel so helpless. And it is times like this when I really miss my mom. I miss her taking care of me. I also feel like I used to recover a lot quicker when I was younger. Is that the fibro?

I too suffer from fibro more if I have the flu. I get a shot every year no matter how many people tell me it is not good for me.

Drink plenty of fluids and get lots of rest. In addition, you should be taking some type of pain meds and fever reducers (ibuprophen, naproxen, something like that).

Oh, and take it easy for about a month after this ends. do not overtire yourself.

Take care, you will survive.

Oh Tiki...do I ever hear you!! In December I got the latest virus going around and threw up for nearly 2 weeks. Had to make 3 ER runs for rehydration. Then was up for about 3 days feeling better and went down for another week of the same thing. Since fibro any virus is so much harder and more painful.

Then about 10 days ago I was down again. This time no vomiting but the nausea was more than I could take after about 3 days. Couldn't take in water nor food...ended up in ER last Sunday. So YES...and I hate it.

Please go slow getting back on your feet. You do NOT want to go down again.
Hugs!

Thanks everyone. I am starting to feel better. It is just my stomach that is having problems. I think I may be going through withdrawal from some of my meds. I don't have insurance right now, so I haven't been able to get the meds I need, and what I am feeling is right there on the withdrawal info. I am hanging in there, though. I really appreciate everyone's support and comfort. You guys are all like my family. Thanks everyone for being here for me.

HI,

The Salvation Army will help you to pay for your meds. In addition, the pharmaceutical companies will send your doctor free meds for you.

You do not have to suffer.

I too have suffered from w/drawls and I SWEAR it feels like the flu! I'm so sorry to hear that you are having problems with your insurance. Insurance, to me, is a good thing on one hand because it can cut some of your health costs, but also it can be a pain because they make you jump thru hoops just to have it!!

Hope you are feeling good soon AND get your insurance trouble lined out!!

Blessings,

Terrie

Donnaeil,
I have never heard of the Salvation Army hrelping with the cost of meds. I didn't know they did stuff like that. I may have to look into that...

Well, two days after I read this post I came down with the flu (as well as did my entire family over the past 7 days)!  It has never taken me so long to get over the flu before - 4 days and counting.  My fever just went away yesterday.

I have noticed a definite increase in pain, to answer your question about flu and flares.  My muscles are much more sore to the touch and I have a feeling I will experience a gradual, rather than sudden improvement.

Hope you are feeling better.  I am back at work today, finally.
