I have to make a decision about where to locate, come May. The owners return here to my three bedroom, three bathroom mansion the first week of May. So here is what I have been thinking, struggling with: First, has anyone ever tried to spend a northern winter in a travel trailer? Are you nuts say thou, well not exactly. I thought if I could get the right trailer, insulate it inside, between outer walls and panelling, spray in insulation, pack bails of straw underneath and all along the perimeter, get some wind powered generator, plus a back-up generator, I have a beautiful piece of land to set it on. I am struggling with where to live. My Dad is twenty minutes down the road in a nursing home. I have a son who is considering taking a truck driving program 12 weeks, closeby, and I kind of like the area due to new friends and a support system.
On he other hand, my eldest has been looking for an apartment for me which will allow my pets in the city. Getting to my Dad will be three hours, one way. Then there is crazy stepmom in another nursing home, right smack in the middle half way from the city to where my Dad is. I don't want to base all my decision making on Dad as he has a brain tumour and who knows what will happen? Any ideas? cool ps: I am also considering Fla. or Arizona.

You need to make that decision only you know where your heart is. My girl friend lived in a small travel trailer for several years right out of college her husbad was a travelling horse dentist so they did it

Thank-you, Leemadd; I am  just wondering if it is possible. I imagin it depends on the trailer and the set-up.

Would it be relatively easy to change your plans if you find you can't tolerate the trailer? If it's something you can try but leave rather easily if it is too cold, give it a shot. If you would have to tough it out no matter what, then make sure you know what you are getting into.

Florida is beautiful and hot. I love the heat but the humidity knocks me out.

Arizona is also hot but it's usually pretty dry. I love the dry heat. I also picked up Valley Fever in Arizona which makes fibro feel like a walk in the park. Valley Fever is a scary disease (fungus) that is Arizona's dirty little secret. Much of the info you'll read underestimates the danger. If you have a weakened immune system, don't even fly over Arizona!

Dagger: Tell me a little more about your experience with "Vally Fever". I am deathly allergic to mould. I would probably. And yes, should I decide to go the trailer route, I would arrange for a back-up plan.

G'Morning Tyno!!

I think it all depends on where the travel trailer is located.  In the winter, if your winters are anything like Indiana's I wouldn't want to try it.  Summer might be easier, but if it gets really hot a trailer could be pretty dangerous without airconditioning.

I would go with whatever is safest and where it feels best from your heart.

Hugs,
Patti

Thank-you Patti, and all: I guess looking at it realistically, unless I am willing to go the whole mobile home (mini home) route, that a travel trailer is unrealistic. Sometimes I go off on these tangents, that upon significant reflection, ultimately get chalked up to a crazy idea, due to beiing under so much stress for so long. I am looking for an easy way out. I need to come to terms with Fibro, possibly some other disorder, symptoms are changing, like morphing into something more pervasive. I am experiencing weakness in arms and legs, falling down a lot, horrific headaches, weird muscle twitches and spasms. It could just be a flair. It just seems the stress is all present and all pervasive. Two elderly  folks needing constant care, constant care of their business and finances, drives to aand from appointments, foot care, ambulances, etc. I am bending under the strain and don't know how flexible I am anymore. I feel so worn out right now.
