I plan on starting topamax for fibromyalgia pain and non-migraine headaches and would like to prevent side affects if possible. Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

I will be starting at 25mg at night for a week or two then will add in another 25mg at night. Building up to 50mg am and pm.

Tingling in extremities- SOMEONE POSTED THAT LOW POTASSIUM CAN CAUSE THIS. eat banana's!
Crying spells- is this depression or something else?
Weight loss- I would welcome less "munchies" but can't afford to lose too much weight
Memory/Cognitive Issues- I already have this problem. Fibro fog vs. caused by meds?

Thanks for your help!

hi mssusan!!

First I wanted to welcome you to the Forum!!  This is a great place to share with those that care!!  So you'll be up to speed with some of the things that we might refer to you might want to check out the second thread on the Forum called Fibro 101.  There's tons of great information on there and some coping tools as well.

OK.. on to your question.. I don't take that med but I'm sure someone that does will come along soon and might be able to help answer it.  I just wanted to make a comment on the side effect thing.. isn't it interesting that some of the side effects of many of the medications that we have to take are some things we already deal with, without that med.!?!  I've always wondered about that and its always bugged me.

Take care and again, welcome!!!
