if you are not satified with your doctor get a new one. Doctors need to listen to the patients. I go to mine in a few weeks. I tell him what  I need and he will give what I want. Never back down and do research.

Just cause they are specialists doesn't mean they're good. I took my Dad to a neurologist to see about a golf ball sized tumour on his brain and all the guy wanted to do was talk politics, to me. I kept trying to get answers for my Dad and he kept (the doctor) going off topic. I got the impression he'd been at the business too too long. He wanted to chat about anything but, the tumour. Nope, just cause they're specialists doesn't mean they're good docs, just that rather than getting a well rounded medical education, they went off in one particular direction.

g'morning Sharon!!

I hate it when I go to a doc. and they want to talk about everything but what I went to see them for.  If and when that happens that's the last time I'll ever go to that doc.

I'm very fortunate to have a great GP!!  I've been seeing him for about 3-4 years.  He knows me pretty well and believes in me.  We have a good doctor patient relationship and I think that's key to getting good care.. but it took me 2 other doctors before I found him.  I don't think that some doctors understand that THEY WORK FOR US... we're the ones paying them!!  If you're not happy with a doctor that you've seen move on.. get another one.. but be sure to check them out before you go.. make sure they believe in Fibro and if you have to ask the receptionist, go ahead and do so.  Sometimes I think these doctors don't know the referral doc's practices very well and that's a shame.  But they need to know that you weren't happy with the referral... after all its money out of your pocket not your doc's pocket (sometimes they get a referral fee).

I hope you can find a doctor that meets your needs (not their own needs).

Take care & gentle hugs!!

Hi Sharon and if I haven't welcomed you, welcome. I think we should be entitled to see doctors grades and where they placed in their classes. Docs can be heaven sent or a nightmare, it all depends on the doc. I do like my GP and have been going to him for a long time and I found a rheumy on my own and then asked for a referral from my GP to see him. This is my second rheumy, I fired the first one.

Vent all you want cause it is bad enough to have fibro but then when we have to deal with docs like that it is very frustrating.

luv and hugs

This run around you are getting is ridiculous!! Call your regular doctor and tell him you need something for the headaches NOW and not in three weeks. See if that helps first. Then if it does, think about changing the rheumy again. If you want to change, tell the doctor your wishes on your next appointment and gently demand he refer you to another. Remember they work for you, not the other way around.

I am so angry after reading your post. I hate when doctors don't listen. Can you tell?? nono
Good luck and let us know what happens.

I agree that you shouldn't have to wait 3 weeks in pain. I call my doc, then wait a bit and call and leave detailed instructions with the receptionist to give him and then I call him again. By then he'll give me what I need (like triptans, for headaches), sqeaky wheel me.

One thing to try, since over the counter meds aren't doing anything and your dr's have their head in the sand, I used to know a way around dr's that won't give referrals, but my mind is soup right now, although it's never a bad thing to look up your states medical board online many of them have a FAQ or a 1-800 # for questions. Now back to what I was saying about your headaches, try a little Vicks or something with menthol in it (even toothpaste) on your forehead, the menthol restricts the blood vessels reducing pain.
I hope it helps, get to feeling better and good luck on your dr.
