I have just recently heard the word fibro. I had horrible pain in my chest last memorial day that sent me to the ER they assumed it was the heart admitted me for one day the tests came back neg. Good Heart. YES!! They eventually decided it was my gallbladder, they took it out.The pain has never fully went away it moves across my chest from day to day feels like it goes all the way thru my chest to my back between my shoulders.I asked my Dr. about Fibro just a week or so ago he sqeezed my arms in to push on my chest and said no I had probably pulled the muscles from my sternum or cracked my sternum. Ok so in the meantime I start reading about Fibro. When it all hit me , I have been recieving injections  from a pain management Dr. in the  lower back at the trigger points  and sides of my hips for 2 years now. Last year I went to the foot Dr. my bottoms of my feet were hurting like in the arch and up my heels. The doc said it was the tendons pulling away from the bones, he called it something and gave me an arch to wear under the foot. Didnt help. My feet hurt when standing after sitting for a while after getting up in the morning I hobble around till the pain subsides.I have had unexplained migraines for years too.Six months ago I went to get new glasses the Dr. said my eyes were'nt lubricating themselves like they should be, I wake up sometimes in the night with my eyelid stuck to the eyeball. Ouch. When I have the pain in my back and chest my right arm feels tingly. I have had TMJ for years its seems to be better now havent had my jaw stuck for a long time. You all have been diagnosed with this , before I go again and explain to my Dr. about the injections for back, hips and  feet pain you tell me , Is this fibro or am I a hypocondriac?  Thanks kathy

Honestly that sounds to me like fibro. I've had it for years but like you, my pain started in one spot, and I only had pain in that one spot. First it was my hips, then my low back, and then my knees. It would come and go. Then, one day, it was everywhere. It never made any sense to me how that happened, but because of the pain being in one spot, I never was diagnosed (until last year when it was everywhere.) Like you also, I had injections in my knees for the pain that did not help. If I were you, I would talk to your doctor about ALL the symptoms you have had... and if that doctor wont listen, go to a different one. I went through three doctors before finally getting to a rheumatologist and getting diagnosed. And I owe hundreds from all the blood tests they did to reach that conclusion. It's all just a matter of finding the right doctor.

Hi Kathy and welcome. You'll find this forum helpful. Everyone listens and understands. I would make a list of all of your problems and take to your dr. I was finally diagnosed last month but had many of the same symptoms for 25-30 years. The pains kept moving around. I forgot about some of my complaints until I started looking at this forum. I would remember, "I had that happen before. Shots in the feet, hips, physical therapy, chest pains, numb fingers, migraine med, unbelievalbe shoulder pain, back pain, awake in the middle of the night soaking in a tub of hot water because I was so stiff, dry eyes, etc." I told drs. about the pain but was told it was 'just arthritis'. I finally told a new dr I knew the difference between my joints hurting and muscle pain. I was starting to feel sick all of the time. He did listen thankfully and tested the triggger points. I was positive in all but 2. I'm better on meds but feel I still need something else. If your dr doesnt listen I would go to another. The dr who listened to me was a new dr for me. God luck and let us know how you doing.

Hi Kathy!!

Only a medical professional can tell you whether or not you have fibromyalgia.  They'll need to take a lot of tests.  Some of your symptoms could be fibro but they could be something else too.  You'll at least need some blood test to rule out nasty diseases like, Lyme, Lupus, RA and MS.
As for your foot problems.. I think you have Plantar Fasciitis.. here's a link, http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1236763-overview .

I just wanted to welcome you to the Forum and remind you to check out Fibro 101 the second thread on the forum.  There's a link on there called "what else could it be".  That will be helpful when it comes to determining whether or not you have fibro.  I can tell you from past experience that fibro and Lyme Disease are very similar.  So, if you aren't getting the proper response from your current doctor go to another and check into it.  Many of us on the forum have been through tons of tests and doctors before we got our diagonsis.  Some doctors don't believe in fibro.. so if you decide to go in that direction, you should make sure your doc. believes in it.

Thanks for stopping by and this is a great forum for those that have fibro, or think that might have it, family members of fibro patients and .. well just about anything fibro related!

Take care,
Patti

Hi Kathy

Your symptoms sure sound like fibro to me.  I went to ER with chest pains in Dec of 07, thought it was a heart attack, but it was the costocondritis. This is when I was officially diagnosed. Also, the dry eyes. Wow that does hurt.  You might want to try Genteal Eye Drops.  They work wonders for me. I put them in at night, and I can open my eyes in the morning with no problems.

I also am having issues with a flare now, and it seems to have settled in lower back, thighs, and feet.  So yes, your symptoms seem like Fibro, but is best to get checked out for everything

Hope you feel better.  This fourm is wonderful, so keep us posted

Hugs

Sue

Hi Kathy and welcome. Print out the symptoms of fibro in the fibro 101 thread and see how many you have. Mine started with fatigue and the random pain I was having I explained away til I went into a full blown flare where my whole body hurt. When that happened my doc did the tender point test and it all fell into place what my problem was, fibro. I knew nothing about fibro either. By that time he had tested for all the other things it could be. To get proper help you need to have a doc that believes in fibro 100%. I have GP and rheumy.

It sounds like your having a "aha" moment and realizing that all the stuff you have been going through is related. Your not a hyporchondriac.

luv and hugs

Hi, Kathy, and welcome!  Most of the things you described do sound like fibro but you need to be checked out to rule out other illnesses that have many of the same symptoms.

It does sound like you have costochondritis.  I have that.  Your chest can hurt along with  your ribs.  When it is bad for me, if I press on the sternum, it is very tender.  My doctor has me taking ibuprofen with food to help with this.  For me it comes and goes.

I also had plantar faciitis.  I could barely put my feet on the floor.  It felt like someone was driving a stake through my heel.  I started wearing Birkenstock shoes and it has completely gone away.  My friend had the same problem, started wearing Birkenstocks, and she, too, has no mpre problem with it.  Just a thought....

Find a good doctor that believes in fibromyalgia.  Many use a rheumatologist but I use a board certified Internist.  Still, ask to make sure they treat patients with fibro.

Be sure to read the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum, read back posts, and ask questions.  We are here to help you.  I'm so glad you found us and decided to join in and I hope to hear more from  you soon.!

Thankyou for your reply. I do remember the Foot Dr. had said it was plantar fasceitus. I have not had a full blown body attack like people speak of, but everything else sounds the same. I dont really want to go to the Dr and have a bunch of tests and pay a bunch of bills so they can tell me if it is or isnt Fibro. mainly because they dont do anything about it, do they? I already have vicodin for headaches and taking ibuprophen three or four times a day FOR EVERYTHING ELSE .They mention zoloft is sometimes prescibed I already take prozac, I had taken zoloft for so many years it seemed to stop working. Both hands have had surgery for carpul tunnel, both elbows have had surgery for tennis elbow, my orthopedic says I have Degenerate Disc disease, hip pain that is explained as the bursa sacs are inflamed, the feet plantar fasciatis,so if you have a diagnosis for all your pains then you dont have it? The only thing I have not been diagnosed with is this darn pain in my chest and between the shoulder blades  I have. I think I am confused now.You know somedays are better than others  some mornings I awake with such pain when I try to lean up it hurts so bad I have to be pushed up from the back.Well I want to thank you for your time.

Kathy, that's the thing with this darn fibro. Somedays are better than others. There have been mornings that my husband has had to push me up from the back so I could get out of bed. If I fall asleep on my stomach (my chiro said never to do this but it happens) I have soooo much trouble just trying to turn over. Then other days I feel stiff but not so much that I need help. The crazy pains just keep moving around. Sorry that you feel bad and hope you get relief soon.

I think what sets fibro apart from most other aches and pains is the tenderpoints.  You must have soreness (triggered by very little pressure) at at least 11 of the 18 standard tender points to be dx'd with fibro.

Hi Kathy,

I don't have much to add as everyone else here knows so much more then me. But your story sounds so much like mine. When I was in my 20's I had chest pain that started in front and went through to the back into my shoulder blade....arm pain with numbness and tingling, and rib cage pain and tenderness. I had tender spots all over my body.....I would ask people all the time....:Do you hurt here? and here?" and they would say no. I went to doctor after doctor....ER after ER....I was sure a few times that I was having a heart attack. They would run blood test....xrays....cat scans....found nothing. I thought I was crazy.....and I was told it was all in my head many times. Finally, during my third pregnancy I was dx with gall stones and I was so happy for an answer. After my surgery I felt better in some ways but the pain never went away. To make a long story short I wasn't dx with fibro until I was 40. Then a year later Lupus. But for years I was depressed and in pain. I will pray for you....I hope you find an answer soon.
Take Care,

Renee

Thanks to all of you, even if I don't have a diagnosis I feel better knowing someone else has the same aches and pains I do, which means I am not a hypochondriac. yiiipeeee

Aartist: Were you tested for gastroparesis? You should have had a gastric emptying study to get that diagnosis.

Have you ruled out sjogrens syndrome - your dry eyes make me curious about this possibility - the symptoms are very similar to fibro - but it attacks all of your glands that produce moisture - like eyes, glands, etc. There are treatments for it - i know acupuncture helps it - definitely look into it!
