I ordered the malic acid/magnesium, which Sherrine recommended from
Puritans Pride.  I started taking it about 4 days ago. Today I woke up with no back, or leg pain, and I was 95% pain free, and tonite I still am.
I take one tablet in the morning and one in the evening.  It is working wonders, and last night I slept the best I have in months.
THANK YOU SHERRINE yeah yeah yeah

Sue, that's so wonderful!!!!! I am so glad that the supplements are helping!

Speaking of-I've been taking magnesium/malic acid for awhile and haven't noticed much change. So I'm wondering-does it matter that I take the two seperately? Is it better to get one of the "combo" pills? Also, should I be taking them twice a day? (right now, I just take one of each in the mornings)

Oh, Sue!  I'm always thrilled when the malic acid/magnesium supplements help a member.  I know they have helped me.  I'm so happy for you!

Danielle, I can't answer your question because the only way I've taken them is combined in one supplement.  I take two tablets in the morning and two in the evening.  I started out slowly, though, just like I mentioned in the thread in Fibro 101.

In the studies, you usually had to get up to 2,400 mg. of malic acid for it to really start to help.  By my taking four supplements a day, I'm taking 3,300 mg of malic acid and I think 725 mg. of magnesium a day.  I won't take more than that.  You know, too much of a good thing.....

Thank you so much for the info Sherrine. I just looked at my bottles and discovered I'm only taking 800 mg of malic acid and 250 mg of magnesium. So, that could definitely be why I haven't felt much improvement! I want to try upping my dose now and see if that helps, but will do it a little at a time.

Thanks for your posts, ladies.  I went to work today, feeling wonderful.

I was coming out of the hospital with another gal, and my foot rolled off the sidewalk, on to the grass, and I really took a tumble (KLUTZ, I am)..

Didnt think I really hurt anything, but now have a swollen ankle, and its turned black and blue.  This is the one I broke last July, right before my sons wedding.  I have it iced and wrapped and see what happens over night. I am not particularly sore anyplace else, but am almost afraid to go to bed, not knowing what the morning will be like.

I swear by the malic acid and magnesium.  I even wore a small one inch heel today (probably why I took a tumble), but it felt good to get dressed up.  Soooooo, off to bed and will see what tomorrow brings.

Hugs to you all

Sue

Puritan's Pride frequently has the malic acid/magnesium combo on sale '"buy 2 get 3 free" which makes it cheaper than any other place I've checked. I take 2 in the morning and 2 in the late afternoon, plus I take some extra magnesium to keep my intestines working properly.

Oh-Sue!! Ouch!! Twisted ankles are awful-and I am a total klutz, too, so I've had a few of those myself. Hopefully ice and elevation will take the swelling down and you can get back to feeling good!!!

Well, I am no worse today after my silly tumble yesterday. And I slept well.  Foot is nice color of black and blue, but I am keeping the swelling down.  Think I will give up the heels. nono    Have a lot more energy since taking the malic acid/magnesium, and went grocery shoppint this morning. Hobbled around the store, but I made it.

Hugs to you all

Sue

I'm sorry about your fall but am glad that you aren't sore from the fall.  Usually if I take a tumble I feel it for days.  Again, I'm so happy this is working for you.

Sherrine, is the malic acid and magnesium in one pill?  Plus, is it OK to mix with other medicines I'm on already?  I take Nexium, Lipitor, Prozac, Nabumetone, Flexeril, and Ambien... should I talk to a Pharmacist?
Hugs to Everyone!

Dianna, the ones I take are in one pill.  It's as large as a calcium supplement, so they are not tiny.

Yes, you should always talk with your doctor or pharmacist before you start anything new.  The pharmacist will be able to tell you if you would have any interactions with the meds you are taking now.  I spoke with my doctor before I started them and he said I was wasting my money!  LOL  When he said that I asked him if they would hurt me and he said they wouldn't so I tried them and they really have helped me.  But, always let your doctor know EVERYTHING you take...including any vitamins and supplements.  That's important.

Thanks for the link! I am going to ask my doc about this at my next appointment and see if I can take it with my other meds. I've heard great things about this combo from many fibromites.
