Well, I finally did it. I applied for disability today. I haven't worked in almost 2yrs due to the fibro and depression. What can I expect now? Long wait with a big fat NO at the end.....or is there a possibility this could happen? I don't even know what I'm doing. I need to get medical records, right? I see both of my doctors this coming week. What should I get from them?

Enough with the questions......thanks for any help that you folks can give me. turn

Hey Myjoy!!

I'm not sure.. but I'm going to follow your thread because I'll be doing the same thing soon.  I do you you'll probably be denied at first, so you really have to stick with it.  If I were you I'd go back through some of the other threads that involve disability and see what others have had to say.

Good luck.. I'm in your corner!!!

Warm hugs,

Patti

Hi myjoy, my experience went like this:
in 20005 i quit my job due to a myriad of symptoms that later was diagnosed as fibromyalgia, cfs, major depression, seasonal depression disorder, headaches
etc....etc...
I had went to several doctors: my gp, 2 rhuemys, physciatrist(excuse my spelling) fibro fog and memory loss has really whooped me hard! ran the whole gammet of tests and treatments, but nothing seemed to be working, i was going to my gp on a regular basis, and she suggested i go on disability (which was hard for me to hear because i always associated disability with worthlessness)
2006 i applied on my own and was denied, applied again reconsideration stage, and denied again, i then seeked out a disability lawyer, and the next step was to have alj hearing in front of a judge, there was alot of waiting, and in january of this year i finally was awarded the disability in my favor, so it took me nearly 3 years. It was a long hard road for me, but their are other ones that get favorable decisions on their first try, so you never can tell, but if you are serious about it, you should get started right away.
I have heard of a firm called allsup that deals with alot of fibro patients, maybe that would be something to look into, they say, they do alot of the leg work for you, and another piece of advice would be to go  to all your doctors on a regular basis. good luck.......dutchone

I can see that I have much to learn. I won't give up. This was a hard decision for me, like I'm giving up....but really, I'm taking care of my husband and myself. I wonder if it's best to get a lawyer right away. A friend suggested that to me. Thanks for you suggestions.

Hi myjoy,
I had to go to 1/2 time work a year ago, and it really killed me to even say the word "disabled". I am a very ambitious career woman and I used to have no end of energy. But as of last January, there's no way I can work more than about 4 hours a day without completely collapsing under the fatigue and pain. I'm getting totally jerked around by my LTD insurance carrier. I got a clear diagnosis of fibro last October from a rheumatologist - it shocked and saddened me. All I want is some miracle cure that will give me my energy back. The pain is more or less under control now, but I want ENERGY!

Anyway, I'll send in a 3rd appeal and if that doesn't work I'll sue them. I have a lawyer helping me. I won't EVER give up on this until someone diagnoses me with "subconscious laziness" or something. Geesh!

Good luck with your application. And don't anyone feel worthless. The rain falleth on the just and the unjust...
I have Fibromyalgia, and nothing else!
I take Lyrica 225 mg/day and Tramadol (150mg time-released) and amytriptilene 7.5mg

Hi myjoy,

My disability was approved the first time around, but still it took almost a year.

An attorney told me the biggest problem with the disability process is confirmation. Often the medical records do not correspond with the patient's story. If you've discussed disability with your doctors and they support you, perhaps the process won't be too difficult. I also believe it helps to have multiple diagnoses, not just fibromyalgia....although that should be plenty.

Social Security and/or your disability insurance will obtain medical records directly from your doctors, so no need for you to try to get them (although you might want them to know what they will be sending).

Good luck and God Bless

Thanks, aux. With my husband losing his job yesterday, it's crucial I get disability. I'm rather numb today.
