Okay, I feel like I'm always calling my rhuemy for every little thing, do you think I should call her to let her know I'm having re-ocurring swollen ankles and feet? It's not terrible, but I've never been one to retain water like this??

If you sit a lot with your feet down or if you eat too much sodium that can cause that problem.  If I get busy on the computer and don't get up and walk around, my feet will be a little swollen, too.  I'm not sure you are doing this but it could be the cause if you are.

Monica,
I see you take Lyrica. I take it too, and it causes swelling in my ankles/feet, and my wrists and hands. So it could be a side effect of the Lyrica.
Just a thought.

Fibro also causes swelling of the ankles. I have that symptom.

After I exercise, swim, my ankles are normal. On days I do not swim I take medication for water retention, a potassium sparing one.

Even after I've been on it for over 1 year? I thought that was something to look for in the begining? I have a Dr's appt with my GP my rhuemy is on vacation. I just really feel like this isn't normal and I was awake so much last night in pain.

Interesting, everytime I tell my doc that i have swelling, they told me fibro patients don't get swelling. I have hard lumps inside my elbows, and swelling in my feet and hands. I do retain water and I am a very healthy eater. So I guess I will try those water retention pills.

Monica, watch how much sodium you eat.  There is sodium in nearly everything.  Also, when you are at your desk, you can do the ankle and foot exercises while working and no one would know it and it helps keep the blood flowing better, instead of pooling down in the legs.  The exercises are in the Fibro 101 thread.  These are exercises that were developed for people who would fly a lot.  It helps keep from getting deep vein thrombosis.

Because of discomfort, those with fibro tend to sit more and that isn't good.  I'm glad you are trying to get up frequently but those stretches can be done in a few seconds and the ones for your ankles and feet can be done so discretely.  Give it a try and see if that helps you.

Lastly, if you like tea, drink some.  It is a natural diuretic.  It is good for you and will help give you energy and it also boosts the metabolism.  They have some really nicely flavored ones out there.  It would be great to find a way around this so you don't have to take another pill!
