Hi, Im new here today and the reason I am here is I am hoping for some answers..I don't know if I have Fibro or not, but I have been having some weird aches the last 5 years or so. I am 57 years old and the pains I am having are so strange. Right now I have terrible pain in my leg, where my thigh connects to my body on the side..it kinda feels like a bruise..you know, when you have a black and blue bruise and you touch it..thats what it feels like. It is very painful and aches all day. The weird thing is...I have the same pain on my other leg but not as bad. Seems like whenever I get this its on both sides. Like, sometimes its in my shoulders (both), sometimes its on my ankles, also both sides...Does this sound like Fibro to those that have been diagnosed?? I haven't been to a dr. because I do not have medical insurance right now, so I have just been putting up with it. I take Tylenol Arthritis and sometimes it helps. Any info anyone has will be much appreciated...thanks!

Welcome cookie! I could have written exactly what you just did when I was 57. I got those same pains on the side of my thigh on each side. Someone told me this is an I. T. band(?) I'm 63 now and dx in Feb with fibro. Insurance problems was one of the reasons I waited so long to go to the dr about this. I was up a lot last night because my shoulders were killing me. We had a storm system go through and that always brings me lots of pain. Of course none of us can dx you. You should see your dr to rule out other stuff. But I get the insurance thing. I was taking otc pain meds for years and moderate exercise everyday with GENTLE stretching. It did help. I'm on perscription Voltaren now because I also have osteoarthritis pretty much everywhere. The people on this forum are wonderful. I have gotten much info from them. Keep checking in and hope you have a good and painfree day.

Hi cookie and welcome. We of course are not doctors on here and can't give a dx but what you describe sounds like it could be fibro. Usually if one side hurts so does the other but one side can be worse than the other. I'm sorry you don't have health ins.

Read the fibro 101 thread, second on first page, it contains lots of great info and a list of symptoms and what else could it be. We have others on here that do not have a dx but all is welcome.

Many use moist heat on areas that hurt. You can buy bed buddies that you put in the microwave or make your own by filling a long tube sock with uncooked rice and tie the end and put it in the microwave for a few minutes. For me any kind of heat helps moist or dry.

Read, ask questions and we are here to help you.

luv and hugs

Hi cookie,
  Welcome.  Sorry you are hurting.
Fibro is usually diagnosed after other conditions with similar symptoms are eliminated.  Is there any way you can get in to see a rheumatologist?
There are tender points with fibro, which seems to be what you are describing with the bruise-type feelings.  I have those as well as aches all over.  Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's my joints, bones or muscles are aching (probably all 3).
Do you have other symptoms besides the bruise feelings?

Hi cookie,

I am so happy that you have joined us. It could very well be fibro. I carry most of my pain in my shoulders, but at times my hips ache too.

As Marlee mentioned, check out fibro101. You will find that it is so interesting to read as you will learn more about fibromyalgia.

Keep posting, we are all here for you.

Hugs, Karen

Hi, cookie, and welcome!  It could be fibro, as others have said.  We are not doctors and are guessing...kind of like some of the doctors I have seen!  shocked    When you do get insurance be sure you see a doctor that believes that fibromyalgia exists.  There are still doctors out there that don't.

I see that Marlee directed you to the Fibro 101 thread.  There are links to good info about fibromyalgia, including a list of symptoms.  You might see yourself there.

I take ibuprofen with food and extra strength Tylenol for my pain and also malic acid/magnesium supplements for pain and fatigue.  These have really helped me but they don't help everyone.  Many members have gotten good relief with these, though.  There is a link about them and how they work in the body in the Fibro 101 thread.  If you are taking any medication, be sure to talk to your pharmacist or your doctor to make sure there would be no interactions if you wanted to try this.

I'm so glad that you found us and joined in.  Read back posts, too, and ask questions.  We are here to help you.  Hope to hear more from you soon.

Thanks everyone for your replys..I will definatly take some time and read 101! Hopefully it will help. Im not really sure if it is Fibro because it doesn't really hurt like when Im sitting still or in bed..it hurts really bad after being in the car, even for short trips..I stiffen up and it takes me a few minutes to feel better. I have to get up, and walk real slow for like 2 mins. then Im fine. I just get sooo stiff. As far as other pains..right now just my lower back aches at times, again, it stiffens up. I have been taking like 45 min walks this week and I am fine..it doesn't hurt to walk, just mostly to touch and when im in one position too long....I dunno, its kinda weird, would just love to know what it is!

cookie,
I have restless leg syndrome too and it hurts to sit, even for short trips.  The pain is primarily in the hip area, but can also be in thighs and knees.  That may be something to look into also.
  Good luck :-)
