hello all, my dr believes this is what I have based on my symptoms. but that I confuse him because ALL - and I mean ALL - of my symptoms go away on prednisone. last time I had a huge dose of cortisone injections I felt like I was 17 again for an entire month (after the rush).

he started me on neurontin last week and I feel much more rested, but no difference in pain. he told me we'd try it for 2 weeks, then if it didn't help he'd give me more prednisone and try to figure this out.

has anyone with fibro been given prednisone and had it help?

thanks,

marie

Prednisone is not recommended for treatment of fibro. You may have an underlying illness that the pred is helping but steroids do not help fibro at all and in fact are contraindicated in its treatment. Time for more tests.

I was put on Prednisone for my hearing problem...not fibro...but I had already developed fibro.  Anyway, the first few days I felt terrific..just like you do, and I pretty much landscaped my front yard!  LOL  Then, after about a week and and half I started getting quite sick.  The Prednisone was shutting down my immune system and I was catching everything that came along.  I was sooo sick.

Prednisone can be helpful in some instances but I know I don't want to take it unless it is short term.  Actually, I was on a Prednisone dose pack for an illness and took my last pill and came down with the pain of fibro that night!  Prednisone is very hard on your bones, too.  I hope your doctor finds something else to put your pain under control.  With fibro, pain goes with the territory.  You just need to learn how to control it.

thanks Sherrine. I believe my dr is trying to decide what to do with me! I'm allergic to all the narcotic pain meds. we'll see though. this is day 5 of the nurontin and I still feel very well rested and my cognitive issues are much better, but the pain and stiffness is worse. ah well, I told him I'd give him 2 weeks!
