Does motrin seem to help more with the pain than tylenol does.....I do not want to get hooked on any narcotics and would like to stick with over the counter, but I've got to get better able to walk some....I am losing weight down from480 when diagnosed to about 436 now in about 4 months...I know that will help

Let me know what you all think about the motrin vs tylenol

I use ibuprofen (Motrin) with food.  I buy the generic since the active ingredient is the same and it is less expensive.  The ibuprofen helps me the most.  When I'm in a bad flare, I also use extra strength Tylenol (the generic form also.)  You can safely take up to 2,400 mg of ibuprofen and 4,000 mg of Tylenol a day.  When I do take ibuprofen, I take 600 mg at a time.  Anything less doesn't help the pain for me.

Read the Fibro 101 thread that I suggested.  There is information about malic acid/magnesium supplements that have helped many with pain and fatigue.  I take these also.

Hope this helps.  This is what I do to control my pain, along with moving, stretching and mild exercise (walking).  I do not take narcotics.

I can't take Ibuprofen much either. I will take it once in a great while (the same way Sherrine said to-3 over the counter pills) but that's only if I'm absolutely desperate. Tylenol works great on my headaches, but doesn't seem to really touch my Fibro pain much. I've only ever taken 2 at a time, though, because of the liver stress warnings.

Mostly I control my pain with moist heat (baths, showers, my bed buddy and heating pad) and diet and exercise. I've cut out all caffeine and sugar and walk on my treadmill 7 days a week and even though all of that combined doesn't completely take away the Fibro pain, it does make it more manageable for me.

Congrats to you on your weight loss, by the way!! That is awesome!!!! :-)

I had to find a combo that works for me. It's two extra-strength Tylenol plus one Aleve. Ibuprofen doesn't seem to even touch my pain, even in combo with anything else.

Good luck and congrats on the weight loss!
