Hi all,
i am new to this message board. I was finally diagnosed with fribro a couple of months ago. The dr gave me the choice of Lyrica or amytriptiline. I chose Lyrica............... Problem is 2 weeks later, just as it was starting to work I had a VERY BAD allergic reaction to it. I am leary of amytriptiline because I have been told by a couple of people I know that have used it that it was very sedating and that they couldn't get enough sleep. I have enough trouble with being toooo tired I don't need to make it worse.

So I am wondering if anyone can give me some guidance in the med area. In my own research I have found that Cymbalta and Neurontin have been used for Fibro. Has anyone tried these?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Tanya...I alternate between Tylenol and Advil all day long when the pain is bad.  I am allergic to most narcotic pain killers...they lower my blood pressure to a dangerous level so I really don't have an option.  I am thinking about asking my Doc about tramadol.  I take Lexapro also but it doesn't seem to do anything for the pain.

Good luck in finding something that works for you.  I don't know much about Cymbalta.  I think it has worked for some people.

Seems like so many people respond to different drungs in different ways. The Cymbalta made me incredibly sleepy and woke me up in the middle of the night (go figure) and did nothing for my pain. Tricyclics made me completely zombie-like, I was so tired, and they didn't help with the pain. I have a prescription for cyclobenzaprine which helps with the pain, but completely knocks me out, so I only take it when the pain's really bad.

Darn near every drug makes me drowsy, though, so me saying that things make me sleepy probably doesn't mean a whole lot.

You are only supposed to take amytriptiline an hour or so before you want to go to sleep ...... its not a med. you take to try and help you thru your day time pain.

I take the  amitriptyline. Prescribed 10mg at bedtime.  I take half of one.  Sleep like a baby and wake up at 5:30 or 6:00 feeling rested.  Also started the malic/magnesium.  Voltaren for pain also.

Tanya,

I just got dx this week and my GP put me on Cymbalta and Lunesta. I started the Cymbalta that afternoon. It made me sleepy so I took it the next day and again it made me sleepy. I decided to take it at bedtime which I did 2 nights ago. I woke up great, then about 10am I got unbareably sleepy which lasted until about 2pm. This was yesterday. The rest of the day and night were great...

But last night I took my Cymbalta at night and my Lunesta. Slept great. So, I hope today isn't full of fatigue. If it is, I'm going to drop the Lunesta tonight and see how tomorrow is.

I figure if the Cymbalta can make me tired enough to fall asleep, it might be all I need. And today my legs don't hurt and when I got out of bed, I wasn't stiff - that felt great!!!

I haven't had any other side affects from the Cymbalta, but then I've only taken 4 30 mg tabs so far.

HUGS and Good luck to you!!!

My dr currently has me on: Celexa, Flexeril, Melatonin, Despiramine, Osteo-BiFlex, B vitamin complex, Tylenol and Advil. Nothing really gets rid of the pain, my dr's plan is to medicate me enough that I sleep through the pain all night. Still working on that one.

I take both Lyrica and Amitriptylene - now up to 10mg at night. But I had to start with just 2.5 mg or I felt doped ALL DAY. But as I got used to it now I take one pill 4 hours before bed (at 6 pm) and I'll sleep from 10 til 7am. Lyrica makes you feel funny or gross at first but you'll get used to that too.

I take time-released Tramadol - one 150mg pill every morning. And I'm feeling like NEW again now that these meds are all working for me! (Tylenol and Advil did NOTHING for my pain...neither did T3s, really)

Good luck!
I have Fibromyalgia, and nothing else!
I take Lyrica 225 mg/day and Tramadol (150mg time-released) and amytriptilene 7.5mg

Hi
Its my first time on this. I take Tramodoz to sleep and tryed Cymbalta. I sleep great now but did not care for Cymbalta.
Got dry mouth, which I understands ruins your teeth. Made me feel worse than going through the pain, fatigue and Fibro fog. I stopped taking it after 2 weeks. good luck.

Hello I have to say I have had FMS for over 16 years now and have truied every drug as it has come on the market some with good results and others that I have been allergic too. After a while no drug seems to work some for longer then others so my list of drugs would read like a chemist shop. But now I am only taking one drug which suits me and my Doctor why put a heap of drugs into my system that do not help. So the only drug I am taking is Baclofen. For me it was trial and error to find the dosage I needed but it works I AM NOT TAKING ANY PAIN KILLERS AT ALL I am sleeping and waking with no soreness at all I take it when I would normally take a painkiller, and so far it is working. My Doctor told me there is a new drug in Europe that will be available here in Australia in about 6 months it is a simple injection. Reports tel her it works really well so I am looking forward to that. As long as I DO NOT GET SIDE EFFECTS FROM IT Lyrica was reallyt bad my feet swelled up and I was put into an arm chair for days in a effort to get the swelling down.

I take 900mg gabapentin (neurontin) and 3 cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) at bedtime, and can usually make it thru the night, waking once or twice. During the day I take 1000mg extra-strength Tylenol once or twice a day. I have been taking them for six weeks or so and feel pretty good, but there are some days (like today) when I am still aching and painful due to the weather.

I take nothing at night at all I fine that the tablets I am taking make it easy for me to fall asleep at night and if I wake up I will drift off again so for now my body is getting a rest so if I have a really bad flare up my doctor can give me a fresh lot of drugs but we now know what puts me to sleep and how many of each tablet I need to take i have a wonderful Doctor who listens to me and asks for my input about my needs she leaves a lot of it up to me now. So I am blessed by having a doctor who has FMS which is great she also uses me to try thing out for the other FMS patients she sees.

Kathy remember to keep on smiling
