HI. I am just in the beginning of trying to get a diagnoses from the dr. Anyways I will leave that rant for another post.

A month ago we replaced the carpet in our living room. The old one should of been replaced 10 yr ago..LOL so it was flat.

This one is sculpted and the nap is higher and we used a medium grade pad.

It is such a pain to walk on. My legs hurt from walking on it. The carpet has been in the house for a month now and it still bothers me. I even tried exercising on it the other day and it was not fun.

Has anyone experienced this?

Hi, Beautymom, and welcome!  I haven't had that with the carpeting but I did when I bought a larger home.  I was having to walk further to do the same things I used to do in my old home and my hips and legs started hurting me really badly.  I thought I really made a big mistake in buying my new home.  But, the muscles became accustomed to the extra walking.

I think your muscles aren't used to the "softness" or "give" of the new carpeting but you will get used to it in time.  I know that when I go to the beach, walking on sand affects my legs because I'm using the muscles differently.

I'm so glad  you found us and joined in!  Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good information about fibromyalgia there, including a link with the symptoms.  You will learn a lot there.

Meanwhile, read back posts and ask questions.  We are here to help you.  I'm so glad you are here and I hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi beautymom and welcome. One would think walking on softer carpet would cause less pain but with fibro anything is possible and I know my body doesn't adjust to change for awhile. Any time I use muscles in a way they are not use to being used I get sore. Wearing a pair of shoes my feet are not use to causes pain til I get use to them so why not carpet.

I hope you get a dx soon but in the meantime stick with us while they are trying to figure you out. Read the fibro 101 thread, second on first page, it contains lots of great info and there may be things you even want to bring up to your doc. Read and ask questions and we are here for you.

luv and hugs

The gases given off by new carpet make me flare for months. My legs feel like I have 50 lb weights attached to them and I get a headache.

Like walking on small gravel, or snow. It's three times as hard to do. It doesn't give any support so you sink in, needing sooo much more effort to keep going. Go to the playground and walk on that small gravel they have under the swing sets, and slides. You'll see. It just seems like so much more work. Consider walking in that room, exercizing. Imagine what you'll save not having to buy a treadmill.

Hi Beautymom!

And glad you have joined our family! We are a wonderful bunch, ya know... smilewinkgrin and you must be too since you joined in. I also think it's just that you are a different surface and your legs will get used to it. I would think it will be better in the long run, but it may take a bit more time. Think of walking on hard dirt...pretty easy. Then think of walking in soft sand...yikes! That makes MY legs hurt. Maybe sort of like that is a very small way. Keep those calf and thigh muscles warm and rest them when they hurt.

I saw in your profile you love to sew. What are your areas of interest??? I've sewn clothes since I was 8 or 9 but these days, when my grandchildren are closer to that age now, I am a quilter. And as you know, a fabric-aholic! I just bought quite a few pieces off Ebay to build my stash up because I have several quilts to get done. In our extended family we have 2 new babies due, I have a wedding quilt to finish and .... I'll shorten this long story....My paternal grandmother raised 6 children and had lots and lots of grandkids (can't think of how many now). So she began working on a quilt for each grandchild which was presented when you graduated from high school. I decided to take up on her tradition for my grandkids and also my "extra" grandkids which are increasing...lol The one I'm starting to cut is going to be a Japanese style Sashiko quilt. I'm excited to get going as I've never done it before.

OK, enough about me. Please do join us for our daily Koffee Klatch. It's a fun time in our day and no talk of pain!...lol

Hugs,
Chutzie

Sure Donnaeil! I'm happy to take on all who are willing to put up with my silliness. Sometimes the grandkids just look at me puzzled when I get goofy with them. Love to mess with those little minds...lol Get in line for your quilt Donnaeil!
