Hi,
I found this site when I did a search on unexplained teeth pain, I think the post was from "mamanan", so if you are reading this, it would be great to hear if you found out what was causing this. For me this started about 3 years ago, pain that feels like spasm in my teeth, it is a dull pain and it travels. Also my temple muscles will often twitch and the muscles on the side of my head. My teeth are perfectly fine, but it always feels like they are aching. I did have frozen shoulder a few years ago and I do have knee pain. My rheum feels that it is myofascial pain disorder. I am 38 years old. Does anyone have this or similar symptoms and can let me know what has and hasn't worked?

Thank you!

Hi Schnauzer and welcome!!

I hope mamanan comes by and finds this post but until then we all will do the best we can to answer. I have pain in my jaw/teeth/gums off and on from fibro. One doc said I DO have TMJ which goes hand in hand with fibro. That's something you might look into. A good dentist or an ear/nose/throat specialist can diagnose that. I have found lately that I have been clenching my jaw/teeth without realizing it and it's been causing extra pain. Have you asked your dentist about the pain? Might be the first place to ask.

Again...welcome!

Hi, and welcome!  I agree with Chutz.  It sound like what happens with TMJ.  I have the shoulder and neck pain that will carry up into my scalp.  The muscles are so tight for me.  I find a GENTLE massage helps me.  Meantime, try massaging your scalp, around the base of your skull (I have knots there) and even your temples.  That might help you some.

Be sure to check out the Fibro 101 thread...the second thread on the forum.  There are links to good info about fibromyalgia.  You will learn a lot there!

I'm so glad that you found us and joined it!  I hope to hear more from you soon.

Hi...I have the exact same thing and mine is from TMJ.  The muscles in my temple and near my jaw twitch from grinding my teeth, and clenching my jaw.  Also, unexplained tooth aches and head aches.  Massage is  the only thing that has given me relief.  I got a mouth guard but all I did was bite through it in my sleep.

Thank you all for your responses. Many have mentioned TMJ. It sounds like this doesn't go away easily. I've tried a splint also, but my teeth are still hurting. Do you do the massage yourselves? I think it would be too expensive to get it done professionally all the time. I don't have pain in the joint, this seems to be all muscle related. The doctor put me on Amitryptiline, I hated the side effects, gained 5 pounds in 2 weeks so stopped them, it wasn't helping much anyway. I'll check out some other threads. Anyone have advice on what has worked for them medication wise? Thanks

I have had REALLY bad teeth pain, sinus pain, face/eye pain which all would come and go depending on what physical activity I did the day before. But if it were REALLY bad, then not only my neck/back would kill and a whopping headache, but also my "face" hurt like hell.

I am now dx with fibro and on a great treatment plan. These symptoms don't come on at all if I take my meds.

But of course, you should get a dental checkup and talk to your dr. about it too.

Oh...sorry....and btw - amitriptylene takes a while to get used to. But when you do, you won't necessarily gain any more weight and you might lose what you gained. At first I wanted to eat the dog and cats around 9 pm every night (starving!) but that disappeared after a few weeks on it.

I weigh 58 kg, 5'5" and I've been on it for 6 months now.
