Do you know how many silver/gray Dodge Caravans there are...a bazillion!  So last night I went up to the store at the end of my street.  It's a small local IGA...not a huge megaplex.  I come out of the store with a monster jug of laundry detergent and a bag with baked potatoes and a steak in it.  I walk towards my car and start clicking the button on my key to unlock the door.  Nothing.  Again and again.  Nope.  I don't know anyting about these key fobs or whatever they are called and I am thinking the battery is dead or something.  My purse is in the car as I just took money in the store with me.  No cell phone to call the hubby for the other set.  Then I notice another woman trying to unlock her van.  Both of us are standing there swearing, and clicking buttons.  As I peer down the row of cars I then see there are SIX silver Dodge Vans parked in a row...in this small parking lot.  SIX!  Anyway, I dropped my groceries and walked over to the other  woman and told her we were  probably trying to get into each others vehicles.  Then we laughed and switched postions.  In the meantime, in what seemed like a microsecond, a young man rounding up carts saw my groceries on the ground and was taking them back in the store...so I have to chase him down.

Fibromites need vehicles that are flourescent and glow in the dark.  When we click the button, the car should yell "over here, moron."  I can't tell you how many times I have tried to get into someone else's car. I left Lowes once while the hubby wandered around forever, because my legs hurt and actually sat in someone else's  unlocked van for about a half hour.

As I always say...Oh, the Humanity!

Poor Donna, did you think to hit the panic button to set the horn off??? I have to do that sometimes when I forget where I park. This is funny cause DH and I were talking Sun on the way home from GDs how many silver vehicles there are. I have an antenna on the top of my car and I had a ball on it that looked like a blonde but it must have fallen off or someone took it off so I could see it better in a parking lot.

BTW I had a silver car before I got the one I have now.

Donna, my mom has a silver Dodge caravan! And I was driving it while she was here getting all of her stuff settled. (Her house is sold). There are lots of silver vans. But, Mom said that she was glad to be back in Iowa where people drove minivans, because in Texas, where she is now, everyone drives a big SUV or truck. Diane

Been there, done that, I am glad that the other woman was making that mistake also. Hey, great minds think alike.

I find that rental cars are the worst. at least my car is dirty enough to be identified. We are buying a new car this year and I am still trying to figure out what make and model I will purchase. I want one that I recognize easily.

Along with my face blindness, I do not recognize objects or spaces like garages and parking lots well. I felt that the worst thing about getting divorce was I would no longer have a husband who had an excellent sense of direction and who knew where we parked the car.

A friend in the fibro support group reported her car stolen only to be notified 4 days later by the police that it had been in the parking lot the entire time!

Marlee...I never even noticed that I had a panic button on the key fob!  After you mentioned it, I looked and there it was...this tiny red sliver, that says 'Panic'.  Duh...and more duh.  I am electronically challanged!  I was driving our other car last week and all heat,air/defrost features are on one electronic panel and I couldn't turn the defroster on.  All those little symbols instead of words...Geez. That's as bad as me standing in front of two restrooms at a sea food resturant and looking at the sign on the doors...'Mates and Matees'.  What?  I assumed I am a 'Matee'.

Well here in my little town there are a TON of Green Windstars. I actually climbed in the wrong one and looked around. It was more messier then mine, which I couldn't believe, and no car seat. Then my son ran into a tree..So now I have a red one. Not so many red ones..LOL

I have to park in the same row each time I go to the grocery store or I'll wander when I'm done shopping.

We could all get flag poles to put on the top of our cars and a big purple ribbon for fibro.

Donnaeil, rentals are the worse to find cause I don't pay much attention to what kind of car they are.

We have to have a military sticker on the windshield to get on bases and there is a retired Army sticker on the back glass so I look for them.

How many know their license plate numbers??? I don't have personal plates and I have no idea what my number is.

That was too funny Vest. Especially when the bag boy was carrying your groceries back to the store. I do the panic button thing when I can't find my vehicle. I have a red truck, and there are a lot of red trucks around here.

At least you weren't alone, the other woman didn't know which one was hers either.lol...

You are too funny.

Apparently the Silver Dodge Caravan is THE car to have..there are four of them on our block alone! Plus my in laws also have one. People around here need to stop buying them. It's really getting ridiculous!

Don't feel too bad about the van mix up Donna-it could happen to anyone! In fact, it's happened to me. We have a red Chevy Venture and a few months ago, I came out of the grocery store, walked up to the first red Chevy Venture I saw, opened the door and started getting in. It wasn't until I noticed the air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror that I realized it was not my van!! Fortunately, nobody saw me. At least..I hope nobody saw me!! shocked

My car is silver! LOL! tongue

It is the first car I have owned that has a panic button- I would laugh at your story Donna but I know my day is "coming" and I will probably forget I have a panic button on my keychain!

Once when I parked in a ramp at the drs. I came out and couldn't find my car. I pushed the panic button and nothing happened. So I started walking around pushing the panic button. Eventually I got close to the edge of the ramp and I heard a car in the floor above me honking. I was on the wrong floor. Diane

An acronym can help you remember your license plate. Of course, I haven't figured one out for my newest car yet. It is teeny and gets lost often in the parking lots behind the big vans, trucks and suvs.

Littleneck, I do the same thing - park in the same place in each lot. It makes a big difference.

This is one time I'm thankful for my husband and I's odd habit of driving aged and/or unusual cars smilewinkgrin

Our new car is a VW Golf TDI, so not too terribly common, plus we have a static cling in the rear window that helps identify it. Other than that, we've got a 1987 Dodge Raider, a 1988 Pontiac Fiero, and a 1990 Mazda Miata. I still have to remember what part of the parking lot I parked in, but generally once I'm there it's pretty apparent which car is mine. Though I've been driving the Miata now that the weather's nice, and it's so small I can't ever see it until I'm right on top of it.

I go out of my way to park in a row that lines up with some significant feature of the building, too, so that when I get out, I just walk down that row until I get to my car.

If you press your keypad under your chin, then press the button, it just about doubles the range. I thought my husband was pulling my leg with this trick but it really works. Try it!

Once, I was in a parking lot and a lady a few rows over clicks her alarm, and right after, I clicked mine - they sounded the same. She stopped and looked around all confused. She clicked hers again, so I clicked mine again. We did this a few more times. At first I thought it was funny but then I realized the poor woman probably had fibro and I was confusing her.

Daisy, back when I had a brain, I helped finalize the design of the Fiero. I used to be an engineer before Lyme/fibro.

I was coming out of my doctor's clinic a several years ago, and at the time I had a green caravan, and I put my daughter in and told her to get buckled (she was about 4 years old at the time) and she just looked at my strange and wouldnt sit down. I kept arguing with her, but she just stood there looking at me like I'm crazy. So I go to get in the drivers seat and started freaking out that someone stole the dangly things from my mirror, and then I noticed everything was missing that I had there and I turned around and my daughter is still standing there looking at me and noticed that the car seat I was trying to force her into wasnt hers. It took me a good several minutes to discover that I was in the wrong van, mine was in the spot next to the van I broke into (actually my van and the other was unlocked). I was terribly embarrassed, but I didnt see anyone looking, but I'm sure there was....and my daughter still remembers and loves to tease me, she's 7 now, my kids have way too of good memory, and love telling the whole world about all the stupid things I have done.

Donna,

OMG, that is so funny! The town where I live has SO many cars that are either silver or gold (in fact my mom has a gold car and my dad has a silver one, LOL) Anyway, yesterday my mom and I went to Wal-Mart in her car, and when we came out, I got so confused. I swear, there were 5 gold cars all parked together. The only way I knew which car was my mom's is because she had parked in a handicapped space!
tongue

BTW-I'm wondering if the silver/gold car phenomenon is a southern thing. Who has a silver or gold car and lives in the South? Just wondering. confused LOL-makes me kinda happy that my car is red! :-)

Well...due to the severe hearing loss I have from Meniere's disease I can't hear the 'chirp' coming from the key, especially if there is road noise, so I have to rely on my memory.  We used to have a Deapertment of Defense sticker in the middle of our window too, but when we got this new van The hUbby never put it back on, as he doesn't teach on the bases anymore.  It used to be my 'marker'.  I hung a dream catcher from the rear view mirror but it bothered him when he was driving.  I could recognize the van I guess, if I was just more aware of where I park.  Ever try to get in someone elses car that had a dog in it?  Yikes!

Where I'm at, blue Chevy Cavaliers seem to be the in thing, as there are about a half dozen of them that are owned within a couple miles of where I live that are identical to mine. I bought a couple of stick-on decals from eBay and put on the back end and the rear window to identify my car. They aren't permanent, come off easily, and make my car distinctive. This way I don't worry about getting in the wrong car.

Ditto the keypad trick.

Dagger, you have made my husband a very happy man cool   The Dodge and the Miata are mine, but the Fiero is his baby. He loves that car.

I live in the west and I have a little SILVER SUV, so does everyone else it seems. Not only have I tried to go to one that is the same make/model, I have also gone to the little silver SUVs that are different makes/models! So far I have caught the mistake before I've tried to open the door. Oops! My sons think it is so funny!
