Hi folks!
Anyone lucky enough to get the flu recently?  Not swine, just plain old "flu".  I ask because I have had what seems like the worst flu ever over the past week and I just don't ever remember suffering so much.  It is not intestinal, it is all respiratory, but it included a viral conjuntivitus (like snot running out of my eyes!), pure exhaustion, cough, sore throat, fever, chills, body aches (more than the usual) blocked ears since last Friday, etc.
I have gotten colds and other 'bugs" since  I have been diagnosed, but none ever seemed to hit me this hard.   I wonder if it was just the type of bug or if because I have fibro it hit me hard?   Others that I have known that were also sick recently did not seem as bad as me.
The last bad cold I had was almost a year ago, and it lasted a long time, but was a cold, not a flu.  I take a ton of Vit C and take Zinc, as well as a lot of other supplements and herbs to keep my immune system as strong as possible.  So this bug must have been pretty persistent or something else caused a "breach" in my immune defenses.
Just curious of other's experiences with getting a cold or flu, and if you think it is different with fibro.
At this point I think symptoms seem magnified, and it's like besides being hit by a truck in my sleep (when I can sleep between coughing fits), someone also poured sand in my eyes and filled my eyes, ears and sinuses with Gorrilla Glue!  I feel like a whiner (need some cheese with that?).  But I also feel like this is the only place someone might understand that fibro + flu  = a really miserable person.
Doc finally agreed to an antibiotic - I saw her Tuesday and she said I was borderline and did not want to prescribe one (she is cautious about meds and I appreciate that), but when I still was not any better today and had the eye thing AFTER seeing her Tuesday, I called and pretty much begged for an antibiotic.  I know I will get a sinus infection being congested for this long.  I picked it up this afternoon and already can feel something changing - so it will help and this will all be overwith soon.   I can't wait!

I don't have the flu but I have had a really bad head cold then it went into my chest a little bit. I ended up in the ER and kind of out of it. I don't remember much from that day except going to the doctors office and almost passing out. I had to have 2 bags of saline solution to re-hydrate me. The nurse gave me some medicine for my nausea and pain that I was in. So when the ER doctor walked in I was almost asleep and he went to touch my arm and I came out swinging... lol I've just taken alot of the over the counter Sudephed PE cough and cold as well as sudephed sever cold PE... I think I'm almost at the tail end of my cold. My skin had been crawling the whole time. I can't wait until mine is over. I've had it 12 days.

I did get Guaffenisin (sp) for my cough it also has a little codin in it. It works great. So I'm going to take the last of my Sudephed Cold and Cough and then go to the Rheumy early  in the morning.

Listen to your body no matter what the doc. says. They will give you what you want if you are persistant enough.

I'm on my own mission as well and going to possibly be finding a new doc in about 3 months.

Hi Rose,
Several weeks ago I got the flu/virus. I got so sick it scared me. I was down for 7 days! I have never had a virus get me that bad. I missed a week of work and I can normally work through feeling pretty bad. I vaguely remember going to the doctor. My allergies also flared up then of course so did the fibro! My doctor said viruses affect people with fibro harder especially if a flare-up happens during the sickness (common). I can say that I feel much better now. I stayed down and rested but the best part of getting that sick was it made me realize I wanted to learn more about FM which is how I ended up here! Just searching for information on FM brought me to a place of support and understanding. That was definitely worth the week being sick. Altho' I never want to get that bad again turn

I hope you get some rest and feel better soon.

Thanks for your responses!  I am slowly getting better, enough that I spent some time in the garden yesterday.  Still can't hear out of my left ear and still coughing at night, and having trouble with cough asthma that I get with colds, but definitely improving.
My grandson caught this from me a week ago this past Friday, and as healthy 11 year olds will, he got over it in a flash.  My son and fiance also had it, it lingered for them but still was not as bad as me.  Not a really scientific analysis, but I'd say having fibro made it worse for me.
Knock on wood I don't catch another one for at least another year!
