Hi,
I saw some of you said you like the diet drinks.  I was hooked on Diet Dr. Pepper for years, many years ago before I started getting sick.   Someone sent me an article about aspartame.  Well it does cause pain.   I went off of the diet Dr. Pepper and this past winter someone bought me a diet and for the next few days I was in more pain then I had been.  It does cause auto immune things.  I am sure of that.
I believe that is partly to blame as to why I have arthritis and fibro and other things.   I know it's good to stay away from HFC but it's better to drink a regular soda than to drink drinks with the aspartame in it.   Trust me.

Hi Deb, I don't trust aspartame either. I have read studies where they have shown that people who drink diet sodas gain weight more than people who drink regular sodas. There are a few theories about why this happens. The Mexican coke you can get in a glass bottle in a Mexican market has real sugar. Pepsi throwback does, too. Of course, water is better than both - but you know, sometimes we want something besides water.

Aspartame has been blamed for a lot of things but none of it has been scientifically proven... it's all anecdotal. I'm not saying that you didn't feel better after giving up the Diet Dr. Pepper, maybe you did, but I'd like to see some studies before I blame everything on the diet soda.

Just so you know, I haven't had soda of any kind in over five years... I gave up high fructose corn syrup because I believe that it contributes to my migraines, and after I started taking Topamax, soda just started tasting bad. Okay, not completely true, I've been drinking a couple of Diet Cokes here and there recently (last two months), but I'm giving them up because they truly do taste horrible - I just wanted something more than coffee and water.

I developed fibromyalgia *after* I gave up the soda. I also developed arthritis in my wrists after giving up the soda.

I don't eat anything with artificial sweeteners either. I prefer sugar over all of them.

When I did drink soda after I gave up the HFCS, I liked Jones sodas - they're made with sugar...

I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best. - Marilyn Monroe
