idea  i Fibromites,

I am new to this site and this is my first post.  Just a bit of information about me.

After taking prednisone on/off for about 3 years I developed Avascular Necrosis(dead bones).  I had to have both of my hips replaced, one in 2005 the other in 2007.  Needless to say my fibromyalgia has made it a slow recovery.  I still use a cane today, and I am declared permanently disabled my my Orthepedic Surgeon.

I am on my third round of Botox injections, 13 shots to some of my triger points and both hips.  At first I didn't think they worked, but after about 3 months when they have worn off, I really notice the difference.  It takes the edge off but my pain does not totally go away.  I still need oxycodone, vicodin, and flexeril if I want to do anything like grocery shopping or light gardening.

In addition I have an overactive thyroid, depression, anxiety, ulcerative colitis, etc...  With all of this I have gained about 30 pounds and can't get rid of it due to all my medications.  Anyway, to late to make a long story short, and what I was wondering is this:

Has anyone had similar problems with prednisone, and has anyone tried the botox injections?

Thanks for listening,
noklu51

Noklu,

Welcome, welcome, welcome. You have chosen a forum with a lot of wonderful people who all have various experience and a ton of caring.

As for myself, I have had fibro for nearly 30 years and the past ten have darn near done me in, I tell ya. I am familiar with avascular necrosis, because I am a retired RN, but do not have the condition like you do. You poor thing. You must have had your share of severe pain. I really feel for you.

I have not taken the botox, not the steroids either, so I cannot give you any advice there, but all I can do is sympathize. I do however, have the weight gain problem from inactivity and medication. The Lyrica alone, has put 30 pounds on me just this last year and I really really feel it. The depression and anxiety I can relate to as well. I take antidepressants as well and try to keep a balanced level. The stress sometimes affects the fibro and off I go into a flare. I am also on disability.

Well, enough about me. This is your thread and I just wanted to be among the first to welcome you. I hope you continue to post so we can get to know you and you can get to know us.

God bless and gentle hugs.

Hi Noklu and welcome to our FaMily! You will get lots of support from this forum -- we really do care!
Can't help you with your questions, but wanted you to know this was a great place to ask/talk/vent/whatever......
Have you looked at Fibromyalgia 101? It's at the top of this site, second thread from the top, and it's a must read for newbies -- at least I think so -- it was useful for me...
