I have been having a rough couple weeks. It started with feeling incredibly exhausted - more than my usual tiredness. Then I broke out with mouth sores, which seemed to go down my throat. I tried all of my home remedies, and then missed several days of work because I was sleeping all day. A little fever too. Finally went to the dr. - got some antibiotics. Still feel achy though. I guess I was wondering if I could get some support - I feel so nervous about missing work - and also what you folks might do to boost your immunity. It seems I am always so run down. I really appreciate any help.

I forgot to add that I also am weaning off a high dose of cymbalta - do you think this is part of it?

Hi Hope...I guess  mouth sores has been the symptom of the month around here.  I have had a sore tongue and roof of my mouth for two weeks.  I am very prone to canker sores also and when I have an outbreak I get a fever and my glands swell.  Wish I had a real answer for you.  I have been  put on all those designer anti-viral meds and tried OTC products also and nothing works.  I just read something about vitamin B complex and extra vitamin C helping so I bought some yesterday and we'll see what happens.  I have been tested for the Herpes Simplex I viurs and it came back negative.  Recurrant Aptheous Ulcers...that's what they finally called it.  Comes from stress.  Fibro and stress go hand and hand.  Don't know if this is what you are experiencing, but just telling you about my problems with it.

Sherrine swears by rubbing rum on the sores.  If I had any, I'd try it!

L-Lysine works the best for me. It's a supplement and it's sold pretty much everywhere.

The abreva works on the ones outside your mouth. Did you get something from your doc for the sores in your mouth? What did the doc say the problem was? Sounds like you had the flu or strep or something. I don't know how to boost immunity. I've heard that being too afraid of germs is bad for the immune system and that you need some germs to build it up. But I dont know if that is true. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm sorry things have been so rough Hope. I haven't had the mouth sores, my  tongue cracks open at night sometimes from being so dry is all. My DH is prone to fever blisters and I have read where the L-Lysine is good and he swears by abreva. Sherrine does use her medicinal rum for mouth sores, so she says. devil
I know for many the fear of losing your job is always there when your sick but when your sick your sick. Do they really want you coming to work with all the mouth sores???
I have never taken cymbalta so I don't know about coming off of it.
Eat right and take good vitamins is the only thing I can think of to boost your immune system.
Hope your better soon.
luv and hugs

Thanks to everyone for your replies. It can feel so alone when dealing with this.

I used to use lysine for good effect for the mouth sores, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. My dr. really didn't say what it was - just that it has probably progressed to a bacterial infection - my lymph nodes were swollen too. I am going to try the B-vitamins now and see if they help.

I hope I have some energy tomorrow to get back to work.

Thanks again!

I swish rum in my mouth for mouth sores and spit it out and it has worked for me.  Use our quick search at the top of the page and you will find all the posts I've written about this.
I suggest you eat a balanced diet, take a good multivitamin, try the malic acid/magnesium supplements and vitamin D3 since these help with pain and fatigue.  Keep moving.  Copy the stretching exercises on Fibro 101 and take them to work.  These can be done sitting down.  Try to get up and walk around as much as possible.  All this will help with the pain.
Above all, keep a positive attitude.  Look forward to each new day instead of dreading it.  Thinking positively and focusing on other things tend to make the pain fade some in the background.  If you constantly think about how you feel, you will be miserable and it doesn't help one single bit.  It just makes you depressed which makes the pain worse.
I'm sorry you are going through this right now but I believe things will be getting better for you when you learn how to control the pain and pace yourself.  Keep checking here and read back posts.  There is a lot of info in them that could help you, too.  Hope you are feeling better soon.

Sore-e(cute) to hear about your woes.  You get sympathy by the bucket loads from me.  When I would get mouth sores it was always lichen planus, so I can't help much there.

In Mexico, they have great otc remedies.  I have a specific dr. I go to when I'm there.  Anyway, I have gotten, on several occassions, I series of 3, B vitamin comlex shots(Mexico is a big B believer), and they REALLY work.  I also have gotten them with a pain reliever in them.  My dr. here is kind of iffy on the B thing(huh, sounds like lyrics to a song).  These are do-it-yourself shots.

As you may have noticed I believe in B.  Get some vitamins and start swallowing or chewing.  That sounds like a big ouch, what with your sore throat and all.  Try not to think about work.   Good luck and hope you feel better soon. yeah
