I'm on Lyrica and have no problems whatsoever with it. It has helped some with my fibro, and mostly helped my trigeminal neuralgia. But I've had no bad side effects from it. Good luck!

I just started on it too - this week in fact - It makes me dizzy especially when I take it with imitrex. I'm hoping that goes away! I hear it takes awhile before you notice any difference in your pain - do you know how long? I don't notice anything yet...

got told that headaches and dizziness are the worst side effects.. doc also told me could take up to 2 months before i notice any improvement... and should have about 2 hours between meds ..

Doc was reluctanct to put me on since i am 29 but wants me to give it a try

Two months!!? WOW - that's kinda depressing, isn't it? I think its making my headaches worse too - then I have to take the headache meds - the second day I was taking lyrica, I took two different headache meds in the two hours after -omg- was I ever messed up for awhile!

Have you tried cymbalta? my rheumy was going to put me on that but I found out it can cause seratonin syndrome when you take it with imitrex. Kinda scarey - the doc and the pharmacist said it was ok to take together but I researched it and THEN they said DON'T take it!

yeah but most meds take that long .... i can't take cymbalta or celebrex. they are sulfa based and i am severely allergic... so cuts down on what meds i can take for my fibro..

There is also Celexa. Is that sulfur based?

It looks like most of you take lyrica 75mg/day. Is that 75mg total in a day? I'm taking 75 mg THREE times a day. - Is that typical? My headaches are much worse...just wondering

I take 150mg of lyrica at bedtime. I started off taking 75mg 2x a day, but it made me too sleepy. I don't remember starting to notice that I felt better. However, I ran out for a few days, and I noticed then just how much good it was doing!! I don't want to be without my lyrica.

I take 150mg of Lyrica twice a day. I use for both my fibro and my trigeminal neuralgia.

I tried Lyrica about a year ago.  Started on the 75 mg and moved up to the 150mg 2xper day.  I eventually quit because 1) it was not helping with pain and 2) I felt drunk, uncoordinated, dumb, couldn't speak or think properly, etc, etc.  The only positive thing I got was it helped with anxiety.  It did get me in trouble...I started being more assertive and telling people what I thought about things, and, well, like I said, it got me in trouble.  My soon to be ex husband blames Lyrica for our break up, but that is just him not wanting to take responsibility.  It wasn't because of Lyrica.
This is not a drug for everyone.  I have heard it works great for some people. I think it really depends on how fibro is affecting your body.  It was not designed for fibro, but as an anti-seizure med.  When it was approved for fibro it was pushed in advertising like crazy and I had so many people who did not have fibro tell me I should try it, so eventually I did.  These people thought it was a cure.
I was not told it would take 2 months to be effective, more like 2-4 weeks.  Everyone is different.  That is the most frequent thing I say about meds!
I hope it helps you.

Thanks Rose! The fact that it really is an anti seizure drug kinda creeps me out. I definitely don't feel like myself at all. I feel kinda drunk and uncoordinated too but I'm willing to stick it out if the side effects lessen over time and the stuff actually works for the pain. I can't take any narcotic pain meds (I had a hysterectomy with only ibuprofen) so the lyrica is next on the list. I guess we'll see what happens. I figure its worth a try. I'm sorry about your divorce - I've been there and it is NOT fun. Hang in there tho - there's better times on the other side.

I've been on Lyrica for almost two years now. I got over the dizzy loopy feeling in less than a week. I don't really think it has helped my pain--although I might find out differently if I stopped taking it. But it has really helped me fall asleep and stay asleep. I had trouble with ambien amnesia--where you do weird things and don't remember. Also ambien only works for me for about two weeks and then stops working. I don't think I'll quit Lyrica unless there are some big problems. Diane

I gave up the ambien too...taking that AND the lyrica, plus add the migraine meds, I was almost comatose! I think after one week on the lyrica I can say that the dizziness is subsiding. Not sure yet if it is starting to help, I want to say things are just a tiny bit better but time will tell. I still wake up with bad headaches every morning. Hoping that part gets better soon!

I took lyrica for a year. I started out low and worked up to 200mg 3x a day. It worked for about two months and then we had to up it over and over. I started having memory problems and problems concentrating, scary ones. I talked to dr and he said quit, don't do that, you have to taper off. Bad withdrawls. I also gained 30 lbs. All of this snuck up on me, it did not happen suddenly. I don't want to scare you, but you may want to have someone close to you to watch for changes. I also had some problems with urinating, which did go away, not sure if it was related. I am on neurontin right now and it is not helping, next step is savella but not untill a couple more months of neuroontin. Just be careful with the lyrica, I really thought it was a miracle drug, it may have all been due to the higher doses.

i don't expect it to be a miracle drug...... I am starting low at 75mg a day headaches are finally leaving.. i am very cautious of all meds i take since i have had some severe drug allergies in the past.. so i watch for any changes even the tiny ones.. and the bf watches me close.. especially when it comes to my meds...

sorry you had such a ruff time with it...

My headaches are better too. So is the dizziness. Can't tell if it is helping yet or not - can you Carnissa? I definitely have the funny taste in my mouth - sounds like you and I are going thru the same stuff! I'm trying to walk every morning - my rheumy says exercise is super important. I want to up it to jogging - tried a bit but I am not up it to yet at all!

I am on Lyrica, I take twice a day and I am hating the weight gain I have gotten. Now I know being mostly sedentary does not help but I have gained 50 lbs and that alone makes me feel the worst I have felt.

glad to hear teach... i have only been on it a week.. so can't really tell... been trying to walk and i hate the idea of weight gain especially when i have my brothers wedding in september and just got my dress...

i have been getting back into exercise slowly again after my last flare lasted about 4 months..

so hope that will help keep the weight gain at bay

It really did help with the pain for a couple months then we upped the dose and it worked again. It was a great year as far as relief, I thik my problems were from the higher doses. I think a better idea may have been to stop taking it for a month or so and then start small again. Thats in hindsight though. Anyone try the Savella yet? I am interested in trying it. My rhuemy wants to keep trying neruontin for now.
