Hi fellow fibromites- I was wondering if anyone is on Lyrica and what exactly the benefits are? Id like it in laymens terms- as opposed to clinical etc. Ive heard conflicting stories of what Lyrica is used for and how it actually works and ive been left confused. I dont see my rheumy for another month and would love some info before then.

Thanks in advance,

I take lyrica, and it lowers my pain considerably. I mostly deal with the fatigue anymore...except when I try anything strenuous. I thought it wasn't working. I ran out, and found out how much pain I wasn't in when on the lyrica...it was waiting for me when I was off the lyrica. So I take it faithfully.

I'm not on Lyrica because it will mess with my anti-depressents. I am on Gabapentin. You can look these easily up on the internet and find the actions and reactions to them.

I have been on lyrica for about 5 weeks. I have noticed that altho I still have alot of my body pain, the headaches that I have always had due to the neck and upper back pain, had backed off considerably. It also seems to help some with the anxiety. However, I still get bouts with extreme fatigue. Seems like the roller coaster ride continues; some days are good, some not so good. The other thing is during the first week or so I was on lyrica, I had worse headaches and alot of dizziness. That faded away tho...
Hope this helps...seems like there is no miracle cure.

The thing to remember is there is no cure for fibromyalgia. We are still going to experience good days and bad days, fatigue, pain, lack of energy to finish what we start (maybe that falls under fatigue :-) ), brain fog, and other problems due to the disease. All any medicine can do is help. Usually, it only helps with one part. Lyrica helps with the pain. If it does anything with the fog, it makes it worse...at least for me. You have to balance the good and the bad of anything used to help deal with this illness, and use what has more helps than hurts. If it causes more bad than good, then it isn't a good idea.
Just my thoughts after mulling things over. smilewinkgrin

I was on lyrica for only a couple of days before I noticed a difference in my pain and my level of fatigue. I had virtually no side effects.  After taking 150mg a day for a few weeks I thought it was the best thing in the world - until I started to notice the weight gain.  I gained 15 lbs in two months!!  I was more active and eating less and yet I couldn't stop gaining weight.  I was also on Cymbalta 60 mg.  I was weened off the lyrica last week and my pain and fatigue came back before I was even completely off it.  Cymbalta does nothing for my pain or fatigue.  My doc decided that he wants me to try to cymbalta at 120 mg for two weeks before he will let me try Savella.  So far feel like crap - cymbalta does nothing for me and I think it is a waste of time. But what do I know - it's only MY body, right?  If all else fails and neither the cymbalta at 120 mg or the savella works - I WILL go back on the lyrica - I felt absolutely great compared to how I felt previously and how i feel again now.  I will just have to eat only celery or something the rest of my life to avoid the massive weight gain it causes me!  smilewinkgrin
