struggling with Lyrica

I have been trying to come off Lyrica for a little over a month now... closer to a month and a half.... boy you talk about hard to do...
I was on the Max dose 450 mg a day... three times  day...
Dropped down to two a day ....150 mg. for about 2 weeks...
now on 1 day ..... for the last 2-3 weeks...

this past week I tried going down to the 75 mg... made it three days before I got Ill... besides the Rash all over my back and now spreading to under my breast and Tummy , Arms.. so darn sick to my Gut . nausa  ect. and throws me into a flare. Great Hu

so as Doc is not in until tomorrow I just went back on the 150 one  day ...
I was thinking of doing two 75 mg a day.,.. for a while and then drop off to one a day... but can't handle how sick it makes me..

I see my Doc again this coming Friday ... may have to do the 100 mg first . not sure...

anyway any body else have this much prob coming off this stuff. ?

Hi Spirit...I have not had to come off Lyrica but I have been trying to wean off Lexapro for months.  It is HORRIBLE.  I think all these drugs work on seratonin levels and the brain wants more, not less.  I have brain zaps like crazy and itch.  I am cutting the pills into four pieces now...and even then if I miss a day...Holy Moly.  Never, ever again.  BTW...did nothing for my fibro pain.

i sure hope that you both feel well soon. thank you so much for sharing with us. my doctors wanted me to try it, but i didn't want to because of what i read on the pamphlet that was included in the sample. i suffer so much with my fibro, but i don't want to add side effects of drugs on top of it.
i hope that all is much better soon-well wishes to you both :)

Spirit,

I quit Lyrica a couple months ago...cold turkey. I was on 150 mg twice a day and had no ill effects when I quit.....
I had just started taking alot of vitamin supplements so maybe that helped with the withdrawal.....

You really have to be careful when you go off Lyrica. Lyrica causes withdrawal if you go off it the wrong way. I didn't know this until I ran out one time and was off it for three or four days and then I noticed I was starting to feel the same way I did when I went off the Xanax. Please be careful and talk with your doctor. He might be able to give you something that will lessen the withdraw or make it more tolerable. Listen to your doctor's instructions when it comes to going off this medication.
'Cause when push comes to shove
you taste what you're made of.
You might bend til you break
'cause it's all you can take.
On your knees you look up
decide you've had enough.
You get mad.
You get strong.
Wipe your hands
shake it off.
Then you stand.

Hugs to everyone having side effects or withdrawals from these meds.  I know they help a lot of people, but many of us experience some pretty nasty stuff with them.  Been there, done that, and feel for those going through it.

(BTW, I'm not anti-medication; I've just had trouble taking some of them myself).

Thanks every body for your response.. greatly appreciated

Jokat, . tongue   I'm so glad you where able to come off this without to much problems. You know you just reminded me ,. I ran out of my multi Vit. and keep forgetting to add to my grocery list... I will get some more... and have been lacking in taking my Vit D3 like I should be.
what type of Sups do you take ? if you don't mind my asking .

SassyMyKitty , yeah   I have done that also .. Ran out and the guy at the RX had told me it should stay in our system for like 7 days so I did not panic . Bad idea.. like you within 3 days I was soo ill. and swore I would never let that happen again.. it's kinda scary really ...
I will ask if there is anything my family doc can give me to help with the withdraw .. very good thought. its always good to have more than one mind working and issue LOL. specially with this darn Fibro Fog. Thanks..

Austen, turn Thanks you very much for your response and kind words.

Spirit,

You can always ask me anything. I will always shoot people straight.

I take a multitiude of vitamins right now. A multi, calcium, MG/Malic, Vitamin D, Folic Acid, vit A, Vit C. I had a Dr. that had attended a seminar and he wrote down what they recommended for his patients suffering from Chronic Pain. Plus I added the MG/Malic based on advice from this forum.

I do get the sickly feeling less and the fog, but not any noticable relief for pain and numbness.....

I did not have any trouble giving up Lyrica, however I have not been able to kick the Cymbalta.....the withdrawals forced me back on until I can give it my undeveided attention.

I think I would take a year to come off some of these meds.

I was taken off Lyrica cold turkey when it started affecting my vision. The withdrawl was *awful*. I was horribly sick (nausea, vomiting, etc.) for about 3 weeks. I spoke to my pharmacist and she offered some kind of OTC syrup that eased some of it for me. I can't remember the name of it right off (blame fibro fog, sorry) but it was extremely sweet tasting (blech) and really did help. I'll see if I can find it again and report back with the name.

Hang in there. It's horrible to come off of, but once it's gone, you'll feel much better. :)

Hi everybody ..

I just wanted to give an update... went to my doc Apt today ... had to get my new scripts. for Perc , and new ant acid , and Finally going to give the fentanyl patch a try... the pain has just been awful lately ,.  its so darn hard trying to manage this DD .

so about the lyrica.. we have decided to keep me on it.. I will stay at 150 mg a day.. its better than the 450 I was taking.. he advised to stop where I am and see how it goes... thinks poss. could be something else making me nauseated all the time.. Hummm. I wonder.

does any body know if a glutton intolerance can make you feel this way ? or a lactose ? just wondering .. I keep forgetting to ask him to test me for this. .. just to much to discuss in one apt .. I never really cover everything I want to .. so have been seeing him more often so I can . there is just so much going on with me. my doc even said that.

So more blood work . and we will see. ..

Thanks everybody for your caring   yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
