I had knee replacement surgery on 9/25/09. The knee seems to be coming along fine, but my calf muscles ache and are very sensitive to  touch. I'd like to know if anyone has experienced severe muscle pain after surgery.

Hi. I haven't had knee replacement surgery but do know that they are always concerned about deep vein thrombosis(DVT) which can have similar symptoms to what you describe. Have you talked to your doctor about the pain? Do you have any redness or heat in the painful ares? If DVT isn't an issue maybe the pain is just from the way that you are now walking with your new knee. It may take some time for the muscles to adjust and it may get better as you heal. I would talk to you doctor or physical therapist about this. Good luck. Lisa
If I can laugh at it, I can live with it.

Thanks, Lisa. I had an ultra sound on 10/5/09 which came back negative for DVT. I saw the physical therapist today and she's pretty sure the muscle pain is a ham string problem She gave me some stretching exercises to do at home. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again,
Carol
