Hi,
I am a 57 yr old woman who has gone from dr to dr looking for help for my symptoms.
I have severe sleep apnea which I understand is connected to fibromyalgia somehow.
Anyway, I have fatigue, IBS, muscle pain that comes and goes and moves around, chills/hot spells, ringing in my ears or tinnitis, anxiety/depression, memory problems and forgetfulness, heart palpitations
(all normal testing).
My family drs say its hormonal and keep changing my estrogen which doesn't help.  I saw a psychiatrist who just keeps trying meds.  Been tested for lupus and RA all normal.
I finally broke down and made an appt with a neurologist who diagnoses fibro.
A doctor in another city too far to go to saw me once and said I have fibro.
I am sooo confused.
My family are tired of me complaining.
Does any of this sound familiar?

Am I doing the right thing going to a neurologist?

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Hi Jazzmynn,

I am a 30 year old woman who was diagnosed with Fibro in 2005 and I have to say sometimes I think it's more than just Fibro. I'm not 100% convinced that's what I have, but I've seen several doctors and several Rheumatologists who insist I have fibromyalgia. I've also had test after test after test. So I finally gave in and am dealing with it. Here are my symptoms:

Muscle Pain - a various times of the day, doesn't always hurt
Fatigue - some days worse than others
Sleep Apnea - having a sleep study soon
IBS
Hot Flash/Cold - I hate it
Memory Problems/Forgetfulness
Heart Palpitations
Numbness in my hands and feet
Numbness in my scalp
Numbness in my left eye
Stinging Eyes
Left Sided Headaches that affect left eye
Dizziness
joint pain

So your symptoms sound a lot like Fibro, at least that's what my doc would probably say.

Do your hot/cold flashes come on at any time?

For instance, I can be talking to someone and it happens or when I undress I get the chills.  I even get hot and cold sometimes.  Are you on medicine?  Do you have anxiety/depression?

We'll see what this dr says.  What a bummer!

Thanks for sharing.

When I get the chills, I usually get a hot flash right after or before. I have Reynaud's which is a cold sensitivity and causes your hands and feet to turn blue when they are cold. So I'm always cold, BUT, recently I've been having hot flashes, so I'm either really cold or really hot and it's very frustrating. I just started taking Savella yesterday, so not sure if it will work or not. We'll see in a month! I do not have anxiety or depression, but I am under a lot of stress.

Hi Jazzmynn and Erica and welcome. Accepting fibro is sometimes hard especially since there is no specific test for it. If you have had all the other things it could be ruled out and have had docs dx fibro it probably is fibro.

Read the fibro 101 thread, first thread on first page, it contains lots of great info.

I get hot and cold flashes. I can go from freezing to sweating in a minute, it's crazy.

Hang with us girls and you will learn a lot about fibro.

luv and hugs

Hi, and welcome!  Yes, there are many different symptoms of fibromyalgia and every person is a little different but we do mainly have muscle pains...especially in the shoulders and neck....cognitive memory problems, and fatigue.

I see you were directed to the Fibro 101 thread...the first thread on the forum.  There you will find a list of symptoms and you just might see yourself there.  There actually is a lot of great info there.

This is a great place for you to come, though.  We have wonderful members that love to help one another and, as a bonus, we really do care about each other.  So, welcome to our family!  Don't hesitate to ask questions either.  We are here to help you.  I hope to hear more from you soon.

It's hard to make someone else understand what you are going through. I'm 50 and on disability. I have a list of diagnoses longer than my arm. I had a boyfriend who used to put his hand on the back of my neck and give it a gentle squeeze. I felt like he was trying to kill me. He couldn't understand how much that hurt. That was before I was diagnosed. We all have similar but different symptoms. We all have varying degrees of disability. Different meds work differently for all of us. But, we all have Fibro and we all understand! I'm sorry that you have it. It is so hard sorting through the maze of treatment options and dealing with the diseases that tend to co-exist with it.

Come on in and vent your heart out. We will all listen and help when we can. {{{{HUGS}}}}

Major depression; Bipolar Disorder; Fibromyalgia; Spinal Stenosis; right arm and leg nerve compression; cataracts; glaucoma; IBS; RLS; hypothyroidism; B12 deficiency ... that's enough or I'll get more depressed.
