Good Afternoon.  I was wondering if anyone else here deals with chronic costochondritis.  I had a few bouts with costo many years ago even before I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.  I have some type of pain/pressure (ranging from mid chest to my rib cage) from this majority of the time and have now been told it is "chronic" costochondritis.  Any info would be helpful.  For now I am not taking anything any stronger than Advil but am debating taking something stronger, even with my fear of meds.

Hi Libby,

I am also a sufferer of chronic costochrondritis. It is the chief area my fibro attacks and believe me I know what you are talking about. I happened to see my rheumatologist just yesterday and he declares it is very common in fibro. Actually when my chest ceases to hurt it shocks me and doesn't stay gone for long. Now I only take Advil, have never added other drugs and pray I can remain this way.

I actually rub (lightly) a product with capsicum and it gives me good relief. My sternum muscles feel as though they are under siege and this helps. Also a nice warm heating pad across the chest does wonders.

Hope this helps to know you are not alone.

Best, Patsie

Patsie,

Your reply was so helpful.  Yes, it does make a difference knowing you are not alone.  This chest pressure/pain has been just horrible to deal with.  I sit for most of the day at my job and I think this aggrivates it too, so I have a hard time most days but am hoping to cut back my work at least one day a week maybe after the beginning of the year.  I am going to try the Capsaisum (did I spell that correctly?) definately, you are the second person that has told me about this.  Thanks so much.
