Just curious if anyone else has experienced jaw pain that causes your jaw (around the joint) to swell, but also have it shoot down into your neck muscles and cause an earache as well? I know I have mild TMJ, and it acts up every now and again, especially with the cold weather kicking in, but I've never had it spread and cause neck and ear pain that I recall...If you have, what do you do for it? Mine clicks and locks up sometimes, and anything cold aggravates it, so I walk around with a hot pack held to the side of my face...

H Dori,

I have recently started have similar pain as you described. I am curious if anyone has a solution as well. I need to make an appointment with my Dentist to see if it's TMJ, but I feel like it might be. I have swelling in my jaws and popping when I open my mouth. I wasn't sure if it was my jaw making my neck hurt or my neck making my jaw hurt. I hope you find some good advice to relieve your pain.

I have TMJD and experience all the symptoms you describe.  The only thing that helps me is to have my husband massage my neck and shoulders, as the headache I get from clenching my teeth can be very painful.  The trigeminal nerve is very long and travels through all parts of the face, jaw, teeth, ears and when you have TMJD it gets irritated very easily.

Many of us have had expensive mouth guards made...I am one of them, but it gave me canker sores so I don't wear it.
