Hi,

I have been having this for a couple of months now,off and on. Just as I'm about to get to sleep my body jerks me awake. It feels like I am having muscle spasms or something. Last night it kept doing it over and over and was up most of the night with this. Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

Hi Shar.

I get this sometimes.  I'm almost asleep and I then my body jerks really hard.  It is kind of like a big spasm.  It only happens once and then I go to sleep.  I've done this since I was a child.  It does not happen a lot though and only once when it does happen.  I never worry worry about it.  Just another weird thing happening to me. :-)

It's happened to me too. Last couple of nights I was kept awake by it..each time I started to drift off it would happen again. Had to get up and wait till I was good and tired before I could finally sleep.

My Nuerologist says this is normal to those who do not sleep well. It has a name, but I can not remember it.

It only means when our body starts to relax it jerks because we are not sleeping well when we sleep.

Hope this helps.

It happens to me every night as I fall asleep. I jerk awake really violently- sometimes I'll lash out with an arm and smack the wall or my poor, patient, understanding BF. The dogs just sigh and turn over if I kick them as I jerk awake. It almost feels like someone is strapping the paddles on my chest and yelling "Clear!" It is startling, but I don't worry about it too much.
