this is driving me nuts. i thought i had the urethra irritation controlled and it's back today. it's so frustrating, so discouraging.

it is not a uti, per doc. i assume it's interstitial cystitis. burning pain in urethra is only symptom, not every day, starts an hour or two after i get up, lasts 3-4 hours. there is no incontinence, it doesn't hurt while i'm urinating. it hurts the same whether i need to urinate or not.

per doc i use vitamin a&d ointment, neosporin plus pain relief, and dermaplast spray. A bath or heating pad helps. i also take pain meds for fibro in general.

how many of you also deal with this totally aggravating fibro symptom?

other than that i've been doing okay, hope all of you are too.

Hi Beanley...have had the same thing on and off for over a year. It was finally decided that it was due to my age (I'm 63) and the outer urethra tissue was dry and frail due to the lack of estrogen. (had a hysterectomy at 23).  I use Estrace cream when it hits me and that seems to help.  If you are young...I doubt that this is your problem but just thought I'd mention it!  I don't have any burning while urinating either...it's just there and it comes and goes no matter what I'm doing.

Beanley, just when I think it's gone away, it comes right back again! So uncomfortable. When I keep my water intake regular and copious it is not so bad, but when it is bad, I have to rinse off with plain water before using toilet paper or my skin will chap and burn. I think, besides the pain and fatigue, this is my least favorite fibro symptom.
