Good Morning to my fellow Fibro friends. I know I've asked this before but this weekend was the worst. Saturday I woke up with a kink in my neck and I decided to walk my dog, now I really don't do excersise because its so darn painful, but I decided to do it anyway and put myself right into "flare" mode. So I've been taking percocets pretty much every so many hours per the bottle.

Here is the problem...Percocet, Ultram & Vicoden keep me awake!!!! So if I take these I'm not sleeping. I know my doctor will not prescribe anything over the phone so I am going to have to call to set up an appointment to see her, but I take Ambien CR the 12.5 I think and even with that if I take a pain pill beyond lets say 7:00PM, then the Ambien, I can count on not falling asleep atleast until 2 or 3 then I have to get up at 7 to go to work so we all not that I am not getting enough sleep!!!

I feel like I"m at my wits end with the saga!!

Vicodin keeps me awake as well! I thought I was the only one! LOL My doctor used to say she didn't want to prescribe them for me since I was alone with a 2 year old all day and she figured it would make me sleepy. But, that is exactly the opposite. I can't take Vicodin anywhere near evening or you can forget me sleeping any that night. I think if I were you, I would just bring those concerns to your doctor and ask if there is another option for you. I am really in the same boat. I have an appt with my doc on Friday to talk about a regimen of Vicodin or Lortab during the day, then something different for bedtime. Maybe my doc will have an idea then, and I can come back to your thread and let you know.

I hope you can get some sleep soon hon! I know what it's like to feel sleep deprived...it's awful! Take care!

Hi Tammy,

Wow, nice to know that I'm not alone! Not that I wish it on you, but it is nice knowing that I'm not the only one.
Yes, if you doctor figures something out please let me know. In the mean time I am going to try my best to not take any pain med's tonight so I can just take my ambien and sleep!!!

Thanks Again!

Monica,
See if you can get the doc to prescribe an SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) like Prozac for your fibro. This helps you hang on to your serotonin and in turn this helps you handle the pain, smooths out your circadian rhythms (sleep cycle) and all in all makes life more bearable. Until you can get something like this a big bowl of rice or Chinese noodles about an hour before bed will help you produce more serotonin (we make it from carbs) and this in turn will help you sleep.

Good luck with this.
