I know we've talked about this a few times so I wanted to post about my new favorite thing that is helping me. I haven't been on the computer all week because my neck has been too sore to sit up straight at my desk, and my hands have hurt too much to type, and my back has been all kinked up and tight from the cold, and my arms have been too sore and heavy to lift. I realized that the winter cold here in Alaska has set in really suddenly (we've already had -15F) and the quality of my mattress is substandard. I wanted to share that I went onto an auction site and bid on a 2" thick memory foam mattress pad which retailed for something like $149, and got it for $17.99 plus free FedEx shipping. I haven't slept so well since I slept in a sumptuous hotel bed on vacation a few years ago! I too wanted to go to a store and buy one but they were just too dang expensive. So I thought to check online - I would buy everything online if I could! So I highly suggest checking EBay or your favorite online shopping retailer to see if they have any deals to help your sleep. My little bed buddy socks under my neck at night really stay warm, too, with the memory foam. Nighty-night!

I'm so happy that has helped you!  I know many members like those.  I had a problem with it because I couldn't roll over.  I sunk in it and was pulling my back muscles to get out of bed.  BUT I do have a huge hernia that makes my body "unbalanced" so that could be causing some of my problem.

But, I did find something else....a fiber bed.  It's like a feather bed but made of material that you can wash.  I got mine at Bed, Bath, and Beyond.  I have a pillow top mattress, a foam egg crate on top of that, and my fiber bed on top of that!  I'm comfy!   smilewinkgrin

Alaska?  Fibromyalgia?  I sure don't know how you manage.  You must be a very strong person!

Hi Littleneck,

I have had the same neck problems but mine started at the dentist. He had my neck cranked so hard to one side I nearly died. Amazing how the neck affects everything!!

Anyway so glad about the bed. I had the temperpedic (sp) and had them remove it. Like Sherrine I could not move on the thing. My husband loved it but I said it has to go. they picked it up and brought me the very best Stearns and Foster made. It changed my life so I know what you mean. Now I'm having to sleep in a guest room b/c Hubby snores out of control. I ordered up the exact same mattress b/c I had to have the same bed. We underestimate the right mattress.

Anyway Alaska, I thought you were from New England. Guess I am in the fog.

Happy day,
Patsie

I would love to have a new mattress! I also have a pillow top, and some how that crazy thing has gotten bunched up under the pillow top. It now has waves and dips in it, and I have no clue how to fix it. You can't really turn the mattress over. Unless I cut the thing open and smooth it out, I don't know how else to fix it. Anyone else ever have that? I wonder if a mattress topper would fix that. It seems to me like it would just curve and dip too if I put one on.
I am very glad you're getting better sleep now littleneck. Sleep is so important to us fibromites. I know that when I get a good sleep it helps the whole rest of my day, from aches and pains to energy levels.

Littleneck my DH has a relative that has lived in Fairbanks for about 20 yrs, don't know how you all do it. I'm glad you got a great deal on the topper. I tried one and wasn't that crazy about it but we all have our own little things that make us comfy. I have a tub full of pillows cause I never know what pillow is going to be the one I need for the night. My DH laughs at me over my pillows. I have neck problems so having a pillow that feels good is important.

Miriam, your mattress isn't pillow top on both sides??? We had a king size mattress and it got a hump in the middle over the years since only an occasional grandchild slept in the middle so when we bought new mattresses we bought two extra long twins instead of a king size so we can turn them more and avoid getting a hump again. Plus they are a lot easier to handle than a king size.
