So...how many of you are going to stampede your way into a store today for all the Black Friday sales?  Hugh Laurie would have to be slam dancing in Macy's front  window to get me in a mall.  In saying that, back when Cabbage Patch dolls were the item of the year, (yes...I'm a dinosaur) a friend talked me into getting up at three in the morning and sitting in a parking lot to wait for the door to open at five.  Even at that hour, we crept along in a long line to just get into the lot.   Sat there and  played the radio for two hours.  When the door opened, it was like being in a mosh pit.  I went back to the car and let her get beat up.

Of course, by the time she returned, the battery was dead in the car from listening to the radio without the engine running.

The DIL slept in her car outside Walmart last year for a Wii.   Not me...any great Black Friday stories?

We camped out in front of Best Buy. We got there just before 1:00 PM on Wednesday, yes, Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. We spent Thanksgiving in our tent catching up with the regulars that we haven's seen since last Black Friday. The doors opened at 5:00 this morning and we were home with our goodies by 5:30.

This is the 4th year in a row that we've spent our Thanksgiving camping in front of a store and we have a blast. We were first in line this year!

I am proud to say.. I am a Black Friday Virgin and I plan to keep it that way.  I hate to shop and the thought of getting knocked around to do something I CANNOT stand makes absolutely no sense.

I'm w/ Patti on this. I am at the grocery store when they open on Friday mornings, regardless of holiday, vacation, whatever. I have never enjoyed crowds, not that excited about shopping. When the Cabbage Patch Dolls came out, I only had boys, my sibs had older children (adults) or a baby boy. My friends all had boys. I believe it was something in the water. HaHa. Yrs. later when we got our DD, we were surprised to learn, she doesn't like dolls. I bought some special order ones for her, but they remain in the display box. Her idea, not ours.

My sons and 2 nephews are all in the same age group. One yr there was a character from He-Man that was the thing. We looked all over for it for wks, my mother was on it, my sister and my DH and me. Nothing! My DH went to work on Dec 23, it was payday (yeah) and on his way to get the ck cashed he passed a CVS. On the rack were 4 of this character. He bought all of them and called me to let me know 'Christmas was ON'. I called my mother to let her and sis know. We were just about giddy. The boys were so happy that 'Santa' got them their special toy. As much as I remember the look on all those faces, I don't want to go toy shopping. Maybe I will change my mind when (if) I have grandchildren, but right now I can work up the enthusiasm. I will probably just get 'it' online, if that day ever comes.

God bless.  Alice.

Judging by the age of your son our "boys" are about the same age. And if it makes ya feel any better .. no grandkid for me either. (BTW.. I'm not pushing for them anytime soon either) I do have step grandkids and they're pretty good kids. 2 boy and 2 girls. They always get gift cards and always will. I don't have the energy or immagination to go "shopping" for them. With a gift card all I have to do is walk up to the check out booth and have them swipe a card. Takes 3 mins and that's just fine with me!!

I don't shop during Black Friday, either.  I'm usually done with Christmas shopping before that anyway.

But, I did fight the crowds, three times, for Cabbage Patch dolls and nearly got in a brawl trying to get a Pound Puppy.  Moms can be vicious!  shocked

I hated shopping when I was healthy! There is no way I would put myself through that torture. No way no how, na-ah!

I am not a fun shopper, I shop like a man :) need something, go look for it. But in general "shopping" is not my thing. I shop online for almost everything now. Its so much easier and, to me, more fun. But then, I don't like people. ha!

I work on "black friday" but I hit wal-mart after I got out. I used the best buy ad and saved $35 on a
Smallville DVD. I also found a couple of nintendo ds games for my grandson. Found a couple of items
from toys r us and matched the prices from there too. So much better than trying to drive 40 miles to
find out the stuff is all gone.

We camp out to be first in the store. Our local Best Buy only lets a small amount of people in at a time so the store is not crowded and we get first pick at all the bargains. We can take our time and not worry about a stampede or people shoving. We waited in the checkout line for less than 10 minutes and were home asleep about 45 minutes after the store opened. You can't get the best deals online so we have to physically be there. We picked up a laptop computer for my son for far less than any deal you will find online.

There are no crowds at the front of the line, however, you have to get there on Wednesday to be in the front. Most stores are not like this and I won't go near them until January.

I have been off the computer for a few days because of my hands so excuse the late post :)

I am normally not a Black Friday shopper at all but I had to go out and get groceries (because I didn't want to do it BEFORE Thanksgiving, dang fibro fatigue!) so I bit the bullet and went to target about midday. Was pleasantly relieved to find almost everyone gone and still deals to be had, but I only got one thing I really, really wanted: a $50 crock pot for $10, big enough for a huge roast, or a chicken and veggies. Woot!
